Timing Ovulation: Any experts out there?

Just realizing that what I thought was Ovulation was accually peak fertility (Estrogen Surge). I don't temp, but know when I get tons of EWCM I must be about to ovulate right? However. looking at TCOYF, I'm now thinking Peak EWCM is approximately one day before Ovulation. Just trying to figure this out to determine my cutoff before O, for Shettles girl attempt. Anyone out there who can tell me their experience with this? Is Ovulation day the one where EW diminishes and creamy takes its place? ANy thoughts would be helpful. You'd think I would know this by now... Thanks so much for your help!!!

Hey Nadine,

According to Dr. Shettles, clear, stretchy CM is within a 5-8 hour window of ovulation. I have found a difference between the EWCM and the CM I know is ovulation. The CM I personally have when in the o window is very light in wieght, stretches 3-4 inches when stretched between thumb and finger, and is very abundant. The EWCM I get a day or two before I o is heavier, thicker, and only stretches about 1 inch, however it is also clear, it is not as abundant. Everyone's different, but I've found that with us trying for a girl I stopped 3 & 4 days before the first EWCM and nothing happened. When I started charting my BBT and using opk I found o actually starts with the really stretchy stuff, right on time with my BBT, cervix position and opk. This month is the first month Ive used all four techniques, and so far things look good. Good luck, just give it time, I always felt that missing an attempt was better than trying at the wrong time, but thats your own personal choice.

Lotsa luck!!!!

Sorry to butt in, but what's/who's Dr.Shettles? I've had some confusion this month in particular (I thought I had it figured out but I guess I don't). I posted in waiting to O. If anyone can help me figure things out that would be awesome! Thanks, Lisa

This month, I know exactly when I o'd and I got pregnant. It was the day after my peak fertility. This is how I know. I m/c last month and the day I got my final test results back I felt EWCM. I asked the nurse if I would be ovulating so soon after a miscarriage and she my cycle could be a little messed up but maybe. Anyway, after asking if it was okay to try again and getting the okay, we decided to go for it. Unfortunately, dh was sick that day. It was definately peak fertility though. I had EWCM, the urge to BD and a positive OPK. Anyway, I begged dh but he was just too sick. The next day I was pretty dry but still getting a positive OPK. My dh felt better but we still weren't able to BD until we put our son down that night (we also BD'd early the next morning). I totally though we had missed it, but, low and behold, we came up pregnant this month. I know that was the day I o'd because we didn't BD before that because of the confusion with the m/c, and we weren't able to BD for a few days afterwards because dh got sick again. It had to be that day. So, the moral of my story is that even though all they signs are right one day, I believe you actually ovulate the next. I think the day before just increases you chances. It makes sense because you want the sperm there waiting for the egg when it's released. That's why your body wants you to BD the day before.

Hope this helps

Susan

Hi Lisa, Dr. Landrum Shettles was a fertility expert/pioneer who made specific theories regarding natural gender selection. There are other popular theories, some of which contradict his, but I chose to follow the Shettle plan to increase our chances of concieving a girl. He wrote a book called "Choose the Sex of Your Baby". If you want more info, here's a link...

Jill and Susan,

Thanks so much for your informative responses. You gave me some great insight. Looks like I should really temp next month to get more clues regarding O day. I think I did O about one day after peak, since I got my first positive OPK on day of peak and still had thinner EW the next morning. Best wishes and positive thoughts for you this cycle!
