Today's Dr Appointment

DH and I met with the Dr today to discuss our options. After the not so good SA results (DH has less than 1% normal sperm) it seems our only option (other than IVF) is an IUI. We're going to try it for 6 months to see if it works, if not it'll be on to IVF. I'll start a regimen of Clomid to O, then OPK's every day till I get a +. Once I get a surge I'll go in to the office with a sperm sample from

Oh Stephanie,
I am so sorry that you are going through all of this. It does really suck that no matter who it is that has the issue, we are always the one who gets to play specimen.

IUI's aren't really that bad....I had 2...one hurt and the other didn't.

I'm sorry Steph! I am glad that you have such a solid plan to go with over the next few months. And I know what you mean about being poked and prodded and DH just has to "have fun". My story is different than yours but I am still really jealous that I am going thru all the torture and DH just has to BD. I just keep telling myself that it will be worth it in the end!

Good Luck to you Steph, I hope that the IUI's are successful!!

Hi Stef,

I am so sorry sweetie! I hear the sadness in your email. I hope that you guys manage to get that miracle BFP soon. I have to second what Iggy said though.

I'm currently ttc #4 for over a year now. Our other three were conceived easily, and DH has rockstar sperm. For that reason, we are doing injectibles right now with an IUI. I'm a little discouraged, though, since Iggy's right. The IUI success stories are few and far between. It puts the sperm in the right place, but the sperm does need to do it's job. My understanding is that it can help the most if there are slight total count issues or slight motility issues.

A few things that I have learned in my struggle to get pregnant:

1.) see a RE and only a RE. They are way more aggressive than OBGYNs.

2.) injectibles produce wayyyyy more eggs than Clomid (thus a better chance of getting pg)

3.) look into your infertility insurance. Most states mandate some infertility coverage, and a lot will cover atleast one IVF round.

From what I've read, your odds would be excellent with IVF with ICSI.

Good luck on this journey! I hope you get that BFP soon. We're all here for you. We may all have different forms of infertility, but it all hurts the same.

I'm so sorry you are going through all of this, Stephanie. I know it seems like you've gotten the short end of the stick here, but in the end, when you finally get your bfp, and your beautiful baby is born...all of the poking and prodding will be worth it!! :)

Keep your head up, and make sure to try and keep DH's spirits up too (I'm sure he is dealing with lots of his own guilt...thinking its his fault).
