Tracking BBT?

OK, AF began today right on schedule. Since I am starting with a clean slate and its my fourth month TTC, I thought I'd try tracking my BBT.

Is it ok to do it in the bathroom after getting up? My only activity would be picking out clothes for the day and wandering into the next room. Is that too much activity? I know, dumb question. But I have never done this before. I think it's time I get serious about this.

Thanks!

Sharon

PS. any additional info/links to help with this will be appreciated!

I was lurking here, usually post on infertility board. Anyway, BBT should be checked 1st thing in the morning, before getting out of bed and before any activity. It can also be checked anytime that you have been asleep at least 3 hours, but obviously 1st thing in the morning is best. If you go to any search engine and look up BBT there is a ton of info out there. Also Fertility Friend has BBT tracking on line for you. Hope this helps.

What about this: I sleep in a heated waterbed. I am usually pretty warm when I get up anyway. We keep it at about 97 degrees. DH won't let me turn it down because it feels cold. And I will not sleep in a different bed just for the sake of tracking BBT. Maybe I can't do it?

You totally got me on the heated bed thing. I have no idea how you would do it then, I guess you could still take you temp 1st thing when you wake up. You are really looking for a trend in body temps, and of course the drop in temp just before O, not really looking for a specific temp. So, I guess you could still do and track your temps to look for your pattern. There are other ways of checking for ovulation, there are opk and of course cm.

Hi Sharon.

My doctor said that the BBT needs to taken before any activity takes place. Before you go to the bathroom or open the blinds, etc. I generally keep the thermometer by my bed and when DH wakes me up every morning he hands me the thermometer and I take my temperature. It really helps to have DH involved, he is such an angel.

I wish you much luck.

I agree with the other posts, that you need to take your temp BEFORE you get out of bed.

For some good resources:

1) The website at www.fertilityfriend.com - they've got a free online charting tool, as well as an excellent "handbook"

2) The book "Taking Charge of Your Fertility" by Toni Weschler - everything you ever wanted to know about charting is in this book!

Good luck to you!
