VERY CONFUSED????

Hi, I've been a lurker here but I;m hoping to get some expert advice... I have been trying to get pregnant for a year and 1/2, I am 30 years old, my gynecologist told me to come back this month to be put on Clomid if I was not pregnant yet. I have issues with seeing gynecologists as I was forced to have sex with a date 15 years ago and for some reason being in the gynecologists office spread open in the stirrups brings back the memory, I'm afraid that if I do see a reproductive endocrinologist they'll think I'm crazy for being scared. I have no idea how I'll get through childbirth with my fears but I really want a baby so I'll have to get through somehow. I am wondering if I should go back to my gynecologist or to a reproductive endocrinologist. I have made an appt for my husband to have a sperm analysis but they cannot take him for almost 2 months. I am wondering if my gynecologist can also check my husbands sperm and also if the fertility specialist can do that, I guess I am somewhat confused on what to do next. I really don't want to wait any longer to get the ball rolling, I'd like to get started with the next step right away. I'm wondering if you can tell me how far a obgyn will go with fertility issues, will they perform sperm testing, interuterine insemination, etc? I'm hoping you can tell me what to expect from Clomid & also on my first visit to a reproductive endocrinologist. How soon after my first visit will they try alternative methods such as interuterine insemination, what is involved in the whole IUI process? I know I am all over the place with these questions but I am so confused on what to do as far as the next step, I don't know if I should send my husband to a urologist or if I should go to a reproductive endoicrinologist and see what they say. Can you help?

I am very thankful for any advice you have for me. I realize I am a complete stranger pouring out my secrets to you but I really don't know where to go next.

Thanks again...

I will try to touch on a few of your concerns.

I'd say go to a RE if you possibly can, they are focused on infertility and really seem to make a difference.

MJ~

I am so sorry to hear what happened to you! I can't even begin to imagine how uncomfortable you must feel at an ob/gyn office. I can't answer all of your questions, but I can answer a few...and hopefully others will be able to fill in where I can't.

First, I don't think that anyone will think that you are "crazy" for being scared to go to an ob/gyn. It is not a fun experience by any means...It might make you feel a little more comfortable seeing a lady ob/gyn, if you don't already.

My husband had an S/A (sperm analasys) done about a month ago, and he went to his regular doctor to have it done. All he had to do was to take the container to the hopsital to the lab, and then he got the results back a little while later. So, your DH may want to see if he can have the S/A done at a regular doctor. (A regular doctors office may be able to get him in sooner than a specialist...) I think that if they would find something abnormal with his results, they would then probably refer him to another doctor.

So, I hope that I helped a little! Take care and hang in there! This is a wonderful board...the ladies are very supportivie, understanding, and helpful!

(((((hugs)))))
