vitamins, aging, conceiving + going solo

Hi everyone,
I'm new here and thought this might be a good place to go to find out about pre-natal vitamins.
There are so many different kinds, with and without iron, etc. I tend to like the fizzy emergenC vitamin C and hate to swallow stuff or chew chalky unpleasant tasting vitamins... any recommendations?
I'm 42, for now I'm still fertile and would like to preserve whatever I have left to try and conceive a healthy baby.
also, I'm considering going it solo and wondered if there are others here who have...
thanks in advance!

Hi B,
Probably best to pick the vitamin that best fits your diet. I have one with iron, but I don't eat red meat. It should have at least 400 mcg folic acid....mine has 800 mcg, then I also take an 400 mcg tablet. I'm 40 so I also am trying to maximize everything!
Good luck to you!

As for a vitamin, you can do the Flinstones vitamins if you don't want to swallow a horse pill!

Katie,
Good luck to you....what a bittersweet time. That baby will be so special.

Thank you so much for all the great information! I looked at the vitamins I'm currently taking they do have 800 of folic acid and like 16,000% of B12 ! so what is different about prenatal vitamins? are there vitamins and minerals we normally take that would be ill-advised for pregnancy?
will check out the other posts as well...
lastly, I'm so sorry for your loss, hubbs, and what a beautiful thing that you can still his conceive this child... I will be thinking of you :) I am thinking of trying soon too, so let's keep each other posted.
big big hug to you!

I don't think there are any ill advised vitamins.. You could double check with your OB, but really the most important in pg is the folic acid.. so you should be fine!
