I bought Vitex and used it for 2 weeks after having really crazy cycles (previous one: 46 days, no ovulation). I met with my doctor 2 weeks ago and asked him about Vitex. He said, that if it does what they say it does (regulate cycles, causes ovulation) - clomid does the same thing and is approved by FDA and regulated, therefore safe.

He basically said that in case of OTC supplements like this one of these 2 is possible:

1. it works great and has the same potency as 'real' drug but for some reason hasn't been approved by the FDA and is not considered a medication (not well established as far as side effects are concerned)

2. It is much milder and not nearly as effective as a 'real' medication - therefore why bother, when you can take something that has proven to work?

It made sense to me and I stopped taking Vitex after that visit.

The box says that it takes about 3 months for it to work, and I only did 2 weeks. Funny thing is, I ovulated 2 days after I stopped taking it and now I'm pregnant.
