Wait or keep trying after chemical pg?

Hi there,

I just had a chemical pregnancy (last weekend) and will be ovulating in a week or so. I thought it was okay to go right ahead and try again this cycle, but now I'm hearing conflicting information.

I haven't been to the doctor -- I will probably go this week about a different issue -- but in the meantime, does anyone have any opinions on this? I've heard you're 50% more likely to get pregnant the two cycles after a chem pg, so I don't know why you'd wait if that's the case...

Help!

Kristin~

The nurse told me to wait 1 to 2 cycles but my mom goes to the same doctor and had an appointment with him a few days after I had my early miscarriage. My mom asked him why I had to wait because I had read there really is no medical reason to. He said it was okay for me to go ahead.

So we did. But I don't think I ovulated on schedule or maybe not at all. And, AF showed up. We BD'd quite a bit this past month especially around the time I had EWCM which was around the time I had it when I got pg the month before. I was having pains like what felt like a bladder infection so I went to my family doctor. I did not have one so he sent me for an ultrasound to make sure there were no "products of conception" left. Everything looked good from that stand point and he sent me to a urologist for a possible kidney stone. I read the ultrasound notes and it said I had two follicles and my endometrial lining was 1mm. Which to me indicated I had not ovulate yet although I thought that I had. I never did get fertile cm the rest of the cycle.

Sorry so long but I guess I am saying, go for it but you may not ovulated when you think you should. I'd use an OPK to be certain you time things right.

Kristin/Jen,

Morning ladies! I had a chemical pg last month as well and my doctor told me to wait two cycles. I am currently waiting for my first af to show up, hopefully tomorrow, so we can get this show back on the road. I did question my doctor about the 2 cycle wait and she said it was just so my cycles can return to normal so they can date my next pregnancy better. Hope this helps!

Like I said to Jen last month, I will say to Kristin,

There is no medical reason not to go for it except timing ovulation. I had two friends with chem. pgs and both got pg the very next cycle (one with twins). I agree with Jen to use an OPK. All three babies are happy, healthy one year olds.

My dr said that the chem pg is just a very early mc. I had mine on 5/31 and was pg the very next month. Everything is well and I am now 11 1/2 wks pg and going great. So I say if you feel fine then go for it and good luck!!!

I also had a chem. preg in May. My dr told me to wait til the next AF

just to be sure. I waited the month but I don't really see why you have to.

Good luck

Thanks very much for your advice one and all! It's good to hear from people who've gone through the same thing. I thought it was fine to try again right away (Tara mentioned that her doctor -- or someone -- told her that your chances of conceiving the first two cycles after a chemical pregnancy increase by 50% or some such incredible number! If that's true, I didn't want to wait).

Thanks -- and thanks to everyone who's been so supportive. It means a lot.
