Hey there,

I have a co-worker that went for her first dr's appointment and they couldn't hear the heart beat, she's 12 week pg. I though you could hear the heartbeat from the 6th week? Her Dr send her for an u/s in TWO WEEKS!! I found it to be sooooooo late!

I didn't a say anything, I don't want to worry her, but last year when I went for my dr's appointment, I was 11 weeks, she tried to hear the heartbeat and when she couldn't she suggested an u/s and that's when we realized that I had a blighted ovum.... :(

I's a bit worried for her, but obviously didn't say anything, she doesn't know about my loss... I really hope everything will turn out ok for her.

Yeah, maybe they just couldn't find it? I hope...

I did hear mine by 8 weeks, but I'll keep my fingers crossed for her!

You can see the heartbeat on ultrasound at 6 weeks but you can't hear it until around 12 weeks. Not hearing it at 12 weeks isn't necessarily a bad thing. Because of baby positioning, uterus position, belly fat, and all sorts of other things, it might not be heard until later.

I have had 2 pgs. The first ended in m/c, and the baby had a weak hb at 8 weeks, and no hb at 10 weeks. The second (successful) pg had a strong hb at all my u/s. I agree with pp, though, in that if they were just trying to hear the hb through the abdomen (and not with an u/s), then having difficulty finding the hb wouldn't be too out of the ordinary. If it was with an u/s, I would say an extra prayer for her and her LO tonight.
