When do you test with OPK?

Good evening ladies. I just have a quick question. I've heard conflicting things about when to test with an OPK. Should you test first thing in the morning, or later in the day. I've never used an OPK before, so I'm not really sure what I'm doing. Also, does anything throw off the results such as medication or what you have been eating or drinking?

One more thing, my cycles usually run 27 sometimes 28 days, however, in July AF came on day 24 and in August (the month we started ttc) it came at day 34 (disappointing day). Anyway, I got a seven day OPK, when do you think I should start testing? I'm confused now because of my irregular last two months (which, by the way, never happens to me).

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Susan

Hi, Susan! OPK's should be used in the afternoon/early eve.....not first thing in the morning. Apparently the hormone is not evident first thing in the morning.

You can always "o" at different times....nothing unsual there! I think it's particularly common once we start TTC because we pay so much more attention and put stress on ourselves. If you have a 7 day test pack I would try one at about cd8/9....if there is a line there then keep on every day after, but if there isn't a line at all or it's really faint, wait for about 3 days and try again.

GL to you and I hope you catch that eggie!!

Hi Susan,

In my experience with my constantly fluctuating AF's, I test about CD8 and beyond. I've read that testing in the afternoon or afterwork works best. Clear Blue Easy has a new 7 day OPK on the market and it was effective for finding my O last month. The line may be light for a while but when you have your LH surge it will be noticeably darker. Then within that time frame you have 24-36 hours until O. Have you tried BBT temping?
