When Does Age Matter?

When does age start to matter in regards to fertility and ability to conceive after being on BCP etc.? This question is definitely just out of curiousity for me because I am only 20 and I know I have nothing to worry about yet, in fact I suppose most would say I am too young to be TTC (lol). Anyways, also if you don't mind my asking.. how old were you when you had your first; or how old are you if you are TTC#1?

Best Wishes to all!

Certainly it is an individual thing- there are ladies who have had no problem TTC at 40+ and others who have had problems at 20. Generally speaking %chances of conception decrease slightly after 30yrs, a bit more after 35yrs and a fair bit after 40yrs. I am 31 TTC#1 and started TTC at 29years(wanted #1 at 30- oh well)

HTH!

Had my first baby when I was 21. #2 at 23, #3 at 24, #4 at 33 and right now I'm 35 and due with my last baby in April. See, I guess in some instances it doesn't matter how old you are! :0) I wish you the best of luck!

I'll be 33 in October. DH is 35. We're ttc #2 as unexpected #1 fetus demised at 10 weeks gestation. I was 31 then.

I heard on the Discovery Health Channel that beginning at age 35 is Advanced Maternal Age.

Good luck to all!

New studies show that in women, fertility starts to decline at age 27 (!!!), with a significant decline starting at 35. That said... the statistics really don't mean much to everyone; my mom had no trouble getting pregnant in her 20's or 30's (even the late 30s) - Wish I could say the same! Likewise, there are some women in their 20's who can have problems conceiving, though age wouldn't be the factor then.

Tami - started TTC at 28; currently 29; turn 30 in December (AAARRRGH!)

TTC#1 since 08/02

I think it's good you're thinking. You need to have a plan for having kids just like you need a financial plan for life. I am now 31...and I remember at 21 it occuring to me one day that ... I really wanted to have a baby. I wanted to get pregnant and be pregnant and go through labor and delivery and breast feed and buy diapers. I wanted a car seat in my back seat and a crib by my bead. I wanted a baby. I felt this feeling again a couple of months ago...and am once again trying to become pregnant...for the fourth time!! I'm tracking my ovulation as we speak (type). :0)You are just as normal as rain!! Good Luck TTC!! Motherhood is truly the most rewarding and healing experience ever! And as far as when fertility starts to drop...it starts in your 30's and continues to decline through your 40's...but everybody is different. My step-mother delivered my healthy baby brother at 46....so...guess God opens the womb and God closes the womb....Amanda

Hi Kristin

I'm 23 and DH is 27. We just started TTC#1 last month. This is C2 CD14. I think I'm one of the younger TTCer's to reply. Just wanted to say that I think it is wonderful that you are ready to be a mother. I have known for a long time that having a baby was important to me. Wishing you the best of luck!

Hi Kristin,

Thought I'd share this with everyone...this page has a "The Relationship Between Age & Fertility" chart that shows % per month and year. Kind of neat to see and know what your chances are. There's also lots of other good info on this page about TTC if you have the time to read it! Here's the link: http://www.ivf.com/ch2mbpg2.html#agechart

Hope this helps!! BTW, I'm 23, TTC #1, which some might say is too young, but I think it's perfect! :)

(Look at my cute "Angel" & 2 big temp jumps yesterday and this morning on my chart)

Don't have a clue what's going on, but I know I've never had a cycle like this, and my temp today is the highest ever since I started charting ( chart #1 in May 2003 )
