When to stop taking pill
| Fri, 02-20-2009 - 3:53pm |
Hey, my name is Alisha I have a 6yr old daughter and a 27month old son. Me and hubby are wanting to try for one more. I have been on birth control pills for about 9 months and depo for about a year and a half before that. I was wanting to try to conceive around May or June so I would be the biggest in the winter months when its cold. Any ideas on when I should come off my birth control? I would really appreciate the advice. Thank you

Hi Alisha -
From what I have heard is it takes your body about three months after stopping BCP to get back to normal. Depending on how regular you are without BCP you may want to stop taking them next month. Maybe use a different form of BC for a few months. I went off at the beginning of November and it took three months for me to go back to my normal (normal for me is I never know when I am going to have a period. Might be once every few month.) I had been on BCP for about a year and a half. Good luck!
In most cases you should stop taking BCP about 3 months before you start trying. In my case however, my dr. wanted me to stop taking and start trying in the same month. Which is this week. Hopefully things will work themselves out for me. I have had a lot of problems in the past, endometriosis, fibroids, cysts... had surgery 2 years ago this month and this past Sunday was my first day off of active pills (I don't count CD week). I am 36 and with my history of problems it could be a long road, but we'll see how things work out.
Good luck to you, I would say when you are finished with the pack you are on now, go ahead and get off of BC.
Alisha
