Who is or has been on Clomid?

This is my first cycle to start Clomid...my doc is giving it to me to boost my O, which will hopefully also help with my low progesterone level (ranges between 2 and 5).

I'm a little afraid to take it...I'm supposed to take it CD3-7, so I have to start today. I have read about some of the side effects, and I'm hoping it won't be bad.

Is anyone else taking it...or has taken it before? I'd love to hear about your experience with it!

Thanks!

Anne

Hey Anne!

I'm currently on my 6th clomid cycle (with a 7mth "rest" between cycles 3 & 4).

This side effects differ for everyone. I tried taking it in the morning, but I had horrible mood swing and hot flashes. I read somewhere that women had fewer side effects if taken at night, so thats what I do now and let me tell you that it has made a world of difference. My mood swings are practically gone, but sometimes I still have hot flashes at night.

Clomid can be a good thing. It got me to finally O. BUT please remember that it can give you the same side effects as being pg. This really messed me up the 1st month.

Good Luck in whatever decision you make!

Anne-

I just finished my fourth cycle of clomid, and for the most part, the side effects haven't been that bad. Every woman is different, though. My first two cycles were 50 mgs. The third, 100 mgs. The fourth, 150 mgs. Side effects: weight gain :(, hot flashes, visual disturbances (only once with 100), and that is about it. I could never detect an LH surge without clomid, so I am guessing I wasn't ovulating. Today is cycle day 10 and on Tuesday (CD14), I am going in for an ultrasound to check my follicles. I was the one who brought it up to my reproductive endocrinologist's office because I swear we were timing it right and my husband's sperm analysis came out normal, but we are not getting pregnant. I am thinking that maybe my ovaries are not releasing the eggs that are being produced. I had an HSG done back in March and my tubes are clear, and my uterus looks okay. I guess I have a fibroid, but it doesn't concern my doctor because of its size and location. My advice to you when taking clomid is this...take it at night before you go to bed. With the 150 mgs., I took them approximately three hours before I went to bed and I really haven't noticed any side effects. Also, watch for vaginal irritation. Never had I had a yeast infection before taking this stuff, and I think right after I supposedly ovulated I dry up and it gets really irritated (burns and itches). Sorry, it is too much information. It could be all the bd'ing though too. I was really scared taking any more than 50 mgs, but it hasn't been that bad for me. I am hating the weight gain, though. I now have cellulite on my ribs and stomach...NEVER BEFORE. I am starting to work out again because I cannot take it anymore. If we do not succeed this cycle, I will probably take a month or so off of clomid to give my body a break. Good luck to you!

Hi Shannon,

Thanks for the response. I had been debating about taking it now...but I'll wait until this evening... I am just getting over the mood swings that Progesterone has caused me the last 2 cycles! LOL! Hard to get in the mood to BD when you want to punch anyone who crosses your path...even DH! LOL!

As for PG symptoms...I've pretty much learned to ignore all my IPS... I definitely have them each cycle, but I don't believe them anymore.

GL to you...and hopefully you'll get that BFP soon!

Hi Nicole,

Thanks for the info.

You know...the times I've use OPKs, I never had an LH surge show up either. And like you...I think my ovaries were trying to O...but just not releasing the eggs...I read that can cause an increase in temps, even though you did not actually O. I'm hoping Clomid will do it for me!

Ughh...weight gain! No thanks!!! I've worked hard to lose weight before TTC...I don't want to gain it back! Not too happy about that possible side effect...

I'm taking 50 mg...so hopefully side effects won't be so bad.

As for the vaginal irritation...I hate to hear that is a side effect of Clomid. That was a HUGE problem for me with the Progesterone suppositories...which I'm opting not to take this cycle. I'm going to drink lots of water and take Robi...hopefully that will help. Someone posted that using Robi was a myth...but my doctor recommended it...so I'm going to give it a try.

Good luck at your appt...hope you have some good follicles! I'm not being monitored...insurance does not cover it and so I'm opting to try Clomid unmonitored. My doc only gave me this 1 month supply...so I don't know if she'll let me continue without the monitoring or not. Hopefully so...or actually, hopefully this cycle will work and I won't need it anymore! : ) I can always hope.

I hope that you get that BFP this month! I've got my fingers crossed for you!

I took it about 6 years ago (not to get pregnant) and never had any side effects ... well, excpet I wanted sex all the time! LOL

I was told though that the longer you use it the higher the chances of getting ovarian cancer later in life. I took it for 6 months.

HI Anne,

I just finished my first round of Clomid, and am about 7 dpo today. No side effects to speak of, except that I did notice a lot of bloating and seemed to have gained 1 or 2 pounds because of it. It came off a few days ago, though.

I took it at night, and haven't had any problems. Dr prescribed 50 mg for me since it's the first time, and I'm Oing on my own. Using Clomid & progesterone for an LP defect. (You and I posted the other day about this)

Like the other poster, I also noticed an increased sex drive! I also used Robitussin and drank carrot juice, and had really good watery or EW CM.

GOod luck, I post on the Clomid board from time to time in case you want more help.

Hi Anne - good luck on the Clomid! This is also my first cycle of Clomid 50mg, which I took CD5-9. While it's too early to tell if it succeeded in helping me ovulate, my experience has been:

- no horrible side effects (no mood swings, no cramps, nothing), but yes, I've had some bloating/water retention.

- lots of great EWCM going on... after so long not ovulating I really thought I was incapable of the stuff. For some women, Clomid can dry up the CM, but this is NOT the case with me.

- huge sex drive. I was really glad to see some of the other replies saying the same thing - I just thought I was the world's biggest horndog. (And my poor DH is getting worn out!)

I also took my pills at night, *just in case* I got any bad side effects. I've been very relieved not to have gotten anything bad (unlike with Prometrium, which was awful for me!).

Good luck to you!

Hi Anne!

I'm on my 2nd round of clomid (which didn't make me ovulate 100mg cd5-9). Last cycle was 50mg, and I ovulated late-cd21. I think I did actually O this month, but not because of clomid, since I think O was around cd42. The only side effects I've had are mild hot flashes and ovulation pain. Did your doc put you on anything to increase cm? Mine put me on Guafenesin (which can also be found in robitussin) and it's really helped a lot. I hope this works for you and that you don't get any side effects!

I took Clomid one cycle with my DD. I think Clomid is what made it finally happen after 2 years TTC. I don't remember the side effects, so they must not have been bad for me, but I have a friend who was absolutley miserable. If it doesn't happen this month, next month I am starting Clomid. Be sure your doctor monitors your follicles and doesn't just give you pills and forget about you.

Good luck!

I've been taking clomid for 11 months now. My only side effect seems to be mood swings. According to DH that's nothing new (lol). Don't be nervous, my doc says for most women there is an 80% chance of +++ results within 4-5 months.

Good luck
