Why did AF come a week early?

Hi ladies!

I had my first AF PP on August 20 after weaning my daughter. Before babies, I had 30 day cycles (I only had one period in between weaning my now 3.5 year old and getting pregnant with my now 19 month old, so it's been more than four years since I've had a true cycle). so, I was thinking and feeling like I was going to ovulate sometime last week, so we BD every other day all week. On Sunday, Monday and Tuesday, I'd felt some pulling and tugging going on down below and my breasts were a little sore, so I was thinking maybe we'd done it! But then yesterday morning I started bleeding and I still am! If it's AF, that means my cycle was only 21 days! What's up with that? I know stress can delay ovulation but can it speed up the arrival of AF? Or is there anyway that this could be a little heavier than normal implantation bleeding (it's red but no clots at all)? Or is my body still getting used to not nursing? Any input would be welcome!

Thanks!

Hello, Just some thoughts. Are you having full AF or just light? Could be implantation bleeding, although I never had that personally, its very common. Otherwise, I have been charting for a few years and discovered I am very consistant - yet have an occasional cycle where everything is off schedule (about 1 per year). I am 35 now and have 2 kids. I know my ovulation day, because I have specific symptoms and also have been using a clearplan fertility monitor for about a year. I have one cycle a few months ago with a 7 or 8 day LP (time between O and AF). Very confusing to me because I though LP doesn't vary by that much, its ALWAYS 12 days for me. So I think everyone has a wacko cycle once in a while, and with your body getting back into routine, so to speak, it may be working through the kinks. Anyway, if not PG this month at least you get to try again really soon!

I'm not TTC yet - but getting closer! Best wishes, Nadine

I would say your body is getting used to no longer nursing. It can take a few cycles before you are back to normal with it.

It definately took a few cycles for me after I stopped nursing to get back into a regular routine. Some months I would be like 32 days and others only 24. However, it only took a few (maybe 3 or 4) to get back into a pretty regular routine of 27-28 days. I also agree that every once and awhile you can have a wacky month. That happened to me in July when my cycle was only 24 days when it had been 27-28 for 10 months. Just one more thing, I heard after having a baby sometimes your cycles don't always go back to what they were pre-babies, so I would definately start charting just so you can see the changes every month.

GL to you.
