new to OPK's

Hi all, looking for some advice from people who use OPK's ... haven't used them before! Yesterday was CD12 and I decided to test at around 8p.m. - and wow, got a smiley face! So we DTD but I just wanted to double-check with you guys - because I haven't used them before, how sure can I be that the smiley face is genuine? Absolute? I used a Clearblue digital OPK. The test instructions seem to see there's very little margin for error ...I did look at the double lines on the test strip but there are NO instructions whatsoever with the tests on how to read those lines, I guess they just assume that the smiley face means your LH surge is detected and that's it. Is that foolproof tho??? I don't even know on this test stick which is 'me' and which is the test line - here's the pic!

I'm guessing (having learned so much from reading this board!) that it's best to DTD today and tomorrow, and keep testing to see if the smiley face disappears.

One thing I am confused about, I checked CP - and fairly new to that too - seems closed, is that a bad sign?? How do I know for sure? If that's getting into too much detail for this board, please ignore that last question!

Thanks!

Hi, there :)

Okay a couple things I want to mention here.

Yes, the smiley face can be relied upon 100% without question. The smiley face is gospel. There are no instructions for reading the stick

Tx Michelle! As you can tell I'm totally new to this! And yup, I just had to test again anyway out of curiosity. Put the stick into the holder the wrong way and out of pure panic to pull it out, kicked over the cup which was on the floor ... aaaggghh!! Anyways, long story short - no smiley - that's all I wanted to know! :-) Hopefully the next time I POAS it's an HPT ... tho after 2 drawn-out m/c this year, that scares me silly... I guess I'm just hopin' to be pg again before my 1st due date arrives next month, and before C'mas (coincidentally my mum's birthday, and she died earlier this year ...)

Will add to what Michelle said as well:) She is right on all counts but I will tell you from experience and I have been doing OPK's a LONG time using both digital and non digital
