I need to go to this wake, and don't really have anywhere to send my children.

Oh Wendy :( I am so sorry! That must have been such a shock for you! Even worse at 4AM I'd imagine!

For the record, I think it's totally fine to bring your kids to the wake. I think it's stupid to try to shield them from death. It's a big part of a natural cycle and they are going to need to learn about it someday. I mean, you're not taking them to an R rated psycho killer movie, it's a wake for a family friend. As long as they don't swing off chandeliers, I think it would be just fine.

Wendy - I am so sorry about your loss. He sounds like such a wonderful and caring man. It also sounds like he touched so many lives with his work and his kindness!

I agree with Michelle that it is fine to take your kids to the wake. I've talked to many people who are adults now, but whose parents did not take them to funerals or wakes of beloved friends and family when they were kids and they still hold it against their parents. At my mom's funeral, my a few of my cousins brought their children. They sat in the very back of the church in case the kids misbehaved, but it was fine. If it was a choice of them being there or not, I would definitely have told them to bring the kids.

Wendy, Im so sorry! That is just sad beyond words. How awful.

Ity sounds like Dr Mike was a real blessing to you and your family.

I hope he wasnt suffering or in pain either, and that his family is doing ok.
