Hey ladies,

Osama Bin Laden has been killed. What is your reaction? I know we tend to stay away from political stuff here, but 9/11 was a pivotal moment in my life, so I am curious...

What is your reaction?

Mine: I am so happy that he is gone, but also a little apprehensive. Will Al Qaeda fall apart due to infighting (as I hope and pray) or do you think that he will be lifted up as a martyr and it will spur on his cause?

I dunno what is going to happen, I would like to hope that it will fade away and fall apart but the realist inside me knows there are a LOT of crazy people out there and he didn't manage to hide from the WORLD for ten years alone. Someone will take his place, I fear. And that someone is going to be super angry and is going to want to make a statement...:(

I wish our retaliation could have been swifter. Almost 10 yrs while our own nation gets torqued by Threat Levels and bipartisan jockeying for position, is too much.
Hadn't Osama become more of a figurehead than a AlQaeda controlling power? That makes it more likely his death won't leave any holes in their command and he's more likely to be a martyr...sadly. But it works the same way for us. His death is like a rejuvenization of our warcry.

You guys are gonna think I am a total wacko. I am so glad he is dead but I am uneasy about his burial at sea. Did anyone see the body or are we to just take the word of the government??

As for retaliation, I am not sure there will be any. Maybe I am just hopeful but if they don't have anyone pulling the strings, who will orchestrate it?

No! You are NOT a wacko! I briefly thought the same thing. I thought "Burial at sea? Well, I think I would feel better if I saw his head on a stick!"

Courtney - My reaction when my husband woke me to tell me this morning was, "Good, that means the wars are ending, right?"

I just don’t know how proof is possible. So they take a picture of his head on a stick. Then you will have your people who say the picture was doctored and isn’t real. I mean, I just don’t know how they would ever be able to proof he is dead beyond a shadow of a doubt.

I just wanted to say something about the proof thing... I heard on the news this morning that the burial at sea is customary in his culture, that's why that was done...And they also said they have picture proof, they are just trying to decide when and where the best media outlet will be to release those photos! Also they are doing a DNA test to make sure sure it was Osama!

I hope this slows down Al Quaeda, however, I fear that might not be the case!

The people who choose to believe they're lying about him really being dead will never be satisfied no matter what is produced as evidence. You can't PROVE someone like this is dead. Pictures can be faked, DNA results can be forged - short of throwing the man on someone's doorstep, there is no proof and even then I bet there are 100 other guys over there that look just like him so even a body is not really proof. You will always have your conspriacy theorists and you just have to leave them be...it's like talking to a brick wall.
