Not sure where to put this. Desperate - my beloved cat has been ill. He has been with me through so much, including my miscarriages.

My guess by the info you shared is he may be trying to pass a stone... That is extemely painful and lobored breathing (panting) is a sign of severe pain. Isn't there an emergency vet near you? I am sorry, it is so hard when our fur babies are sick or hurting...

Is there an emergency vet you can take him to? Look in the phone book....you might find one that is 24/7. I hope he's gonna be ok. I'm so sorry. :(

Oh yes, I do remember her saying she was going away. DH called an ER and is on his way there. I said my goodbyes. Just so sad. I know he is just a cat, but I got him from the shelter as a kitten 6yrs. ago after I had been in the hospital with severe depression and anxiety. He was my reason for getting up in the morning because I was living alone at the time and was so depressed that I shut out all of my friends. Whenever I've been hit with bad news and bawling my eyes out, he stuck to me like glue. He would even "escort" me to the bathroom when I was sick. And during my m/c's he only left my side to go to the litter box or to eat and came right back. I have cried into his fur so many times. I know I have a lot to be thankful for and be happy about, I just wanted him to last a lot longer than this. My father's dementia and overall health is getting worse and I don't know how much longer he has either. I just figured I'd have my furry antidepressant to get me through that too. Ugh...I'm probably not making much sense.

Thank you to all who posted. Our kitty didn't make it to the ER. He passed away in the truck on the way there with DH by his side. I am devastated.

There is no such thing as "just a cat", especially when they're part of the family. I have a cat that I adopted 13 years ago, and she's been there for me through so much, so I know what that connection is like. I am such an animal person and get very attached to my pets, so I don't think it's strange to grieve so much over an animal.

I'm praying and hoping for you that he was "just" passing a stone, since that is survivable although terribly painful. If things went badly, though, please know that I'm praying also that you can find joy in the time you had with him, and are able to find a way to deal with this combined with your father's issues.

I literally just returned home late last night and logged on for the first time this morning in over a week.
