QOTD 4/7

I have two sisters - both younger. I don't know that I wish I had more or less. I do know that when my mom was pg with my youngest sister, I was 12/13 years old. She was not expected and I suppose I would have been fine with only having one sister, but I'm very glad to have my youngest sister, too.

I have a functional relationship with my middle sister (she and I are just over 3 years apart). To quote a friend of mine, "I love her when she is living in her hometown and I'm living in mine." We can e-mail and talk on the phone if it's something necessary or practical that we are discussing. We can't do idle chit-chat. We don't relate to one another on a personal level, really. She'll ask me for advice on certain topics and I'll do the same of her, but if it goes beyond the factual, non-personal stuff, then we really don't relate at all. I do wish we had a closer relationship, because at one point, we were starting to get close and it was so great to have those awesome personal conversations with her. But, then something happened in her life and all of that went away. I catch glimmers of that old closeness every once in a while, but it's always so fleeting.

As for my youngest sister and me, we get along pretty well. She's a freshman in college this year (she took a year off from school between high school and college) and while we can talk about just about anything, we're also quite different. We've always had kind of a parent/child relationship because of our age difference. Now that she's coming into her own as an adult, but a young adult at that, we're kind of at different stages in life, still. She's still quite naive about a lot of things. But, I also have a feeling that once she's kind of settled down from her "pie-in-the-sky" dreams/naivete, we'll probably have a fantastic relationship. I can't wait for that time! :)
