**************DS MENTIONED******************

So I hope yall had a great labor day. I did! I just wanted to post a little update on me, and my 'moving' and ds's 'school' drama. I know Ann asked in the DYK thread a while ago about the move and I never got back to her. To recap I was offered a short term lease in our old neighborhood with a fully furnished apt, but our cost of living would have almost doubled. We were also offered to rent dh's aunt's house after the lease was up (dream house!) Well the aunt decided to stay in NY a few years longer to watch the kids grow up. So we would have had to move again next summer :( Then ds's room developed a leak so we knew we HAD to move since it requires a lot of repairs instead of a patch and fix. Aaah! I started looking online and noticed a 3 br in OUR building was listed. Sooooo......

We r moving upstairs to a 3 br (i have 2 now) and a better view of nyc. We're actually paying THIS months rent on the cheaper apt, moving next week, and we get October for FREE! Happy birthday to me. PLUS we still get all the furniture in Abuelitas apartment. Yay pottery barn! And flat screens! I am super busy picking out paint and accessories and packing stuff up. I will definitely try and keep up with the board, but I might not get to wb as much as I'd like. But I will still keep yall in my thoughts!

As for ds, we have decided to home school him till 2nd grade. Right now, since his birthday is in Nov and their cut off is October 1st, he is only eligible for the combined 2 & 3 yr old day care instead of 4 yr old pre k. And it would continue until we could have him evaluated in grade 2 when the age requirement is met if your birthday falls within a specific calendar year. Silly? I know. Cuz then he'd skip a grade based solely on age, lose his friends, etc. I don't mean to sound rude but He is way too advanced to be put in the 2 & 3 year old program, I felt awful pawning him off there just so I could work. So my MIL has agreed to watch him 3 days a week so I can work. And she just retired from teaching in June, so I know we will be able to home school him effectively.

Thanks so much for reading this ladies. I will be busy this month but I will keep up as much as possible. I hope to see a ton of sticky bfp's! Good Luck and Baby Dust girls!

Meaghan, I have been wondering about you. I am so glad you are back. It sounds like you have a great plan in place. It is so wonderful that a 3 br opened up right in your building and you were able to take it. I think the coolest thing is 1 month rent free. Oh what I could do with 1 full mortgage payment to spend.

I think the idea of home schooling ds until 2nd grade is a great idea. I so would but I have no clue what I would be doing! LOL. I think it would give DS the start he needs in school to succeed.

I hope to hear from you soon. What CD are you on. Maybe 8 or so???

Meaghan, I'm so happy that you got the living situation and DS's schooling figured out! What a huge relief for you. I hope good things keep happening for you.

Yippee! Sometimes things just happen for a reason right? How great that you just have to move upstairs and it's a bigger place, better view and you get all that furniture and flat screen! Love me some pottery barn so if you have any extras.... ha ha... And smart move with DS and home schooling... I was one of those kids - born after Sept 1 here so got held back a year - all the kids in my neighborhood went to school and I stayed home. It stunk...

GL with the move - KUP on everything!!!!!!

Meaghan, Im sorry, I read this the other day but for some reason did not get to respond. Dumb me. Anyways, CONGRATS on the bigger apartment and a month of free rent, plus extra pottery barn furniture and other cool stuff! That is an amazing deal. I hope you're not too stressed out with moving, added to everything else. Even though its not a big move, I know that it is still a gigantic pain to pack everything into boxes and haul it up to your new place.

*KIDS MENTIONED BELOW*

As far as homeschooling, it sounds like that is a great option for you and DS, especially with him being so close to the arbitrary birthday cut-off dates (I really hate the way they do that, BTW). We are currently homeschooling DD1 for kindergarten, but I started looking into it when she was three. I realized that our local public schools are sub-par, but we cant afford to send her to private school, so that pretty much left it up to me. We've been seriously working on our "lessons" for about 6 weeks now, and she is learning even more quickly than I expected. I am glad we are keeping her home, because I think she would be kind of bored in a traditional classroom setting.

You must be really grateful that your MIL can take care of him when you have to work (what perfect timing, now that she is retired!). I really hope that homeschooling works out well for you guys.... and Good Luck with this cycle!!!

Thanks for your support ladies! We are excited about the move cuz with the extra room, we know we are prepared if we are blessed with another child. And we are planning on staying there till we buy a house, so It feels nice to know theres not another move in the near future. It's great knowing we'll be there a while.

Nicole, I've been doing lessons with ds informally since he was younger. Like you, I realized that the schools didn't really give the education we were looking for, and I was worried that ds would grow bored and disinterested with learning. I hope its the right decision, but everyday he proves that we have made the right choice!

Ps I get a ton of learning materials from Target's dollar section. They sell workbooks in a ton of different subjects and grade levels that come with reward stickers, and some great flashcards for all types of stuff from geography to science. Since I get a lot of stuff online, these are really fun and inexpensive supplements. If you live near a Target you should check it out!
