Caffeine what's your take?
| Thu, 09-02-2010 - 7:52am |
SO for the last gazillion months I have given up caffeine for the most part.
I used to drink 1 cup/day, 2 on weekends.
I no longer drink coffee during week & just splurge on w/e.
I did this based on TTC info as well as chinese medicine saying its bad news for me & TTC.
I really really want to get pregnant, no kidding, huh. But I guess Im tired of giving up things too, especially since its really not doing anything for me, or is it?

Hi Mindy...
Yep, it's when I started acupuncture back when we were TTC#1 that I gave up caffeine.

Mindy,
At first I did everything to the TTC letter but now? After five years of this? I mean how long should I be expected to put my life on hold waiting for this thing that may never happen? I'm sure some people look at me and think I must not *really* want a baby because of the things I do and don't do

Mindy, I worked at Starbucks when ds was conceived, as did dh. I drank a TON of coffee, espresso, and tea both at home and at work. Like 5 cups a day. I cut out coffee while ttc till dh brought me home an espresso and coffee maker. I use coffee or espresso as a way to get a serving of full fat dairy or soy for the day as well as it keeping me regular (tmi sorry yall) My MIL uses coffee as an opportunity to drink goats milk. I am like Cheryl, I often go half caff or even full decaf.(ladies who drink decaf coffee please splurge and get something a bit pricey. If your decaf isn't swiss water processed, you are getting a lot of contaminants and chemicals. I'm just sayin.......)
But talk to your accupuncturist first about coffee. I know my MIL isn't supposed to take certain stuff if she's had coffee and vice versa. To be safe, I always serve her decaf since she can never remember in less than 10 minutes what supplements and herbs she took that day lol. Even if your accupuncturist thinks coffee during the week is too much, you would be surprised how satisfying decaf is. I try to do as little caffeine as possible because sometimes it keeps me up at night, so I use something called EmergenC for a wake up call/energy booster and to help my immune system.
What I can say is that if you want caffeine, coffees and teas are the best way to get it. Plus you get the anti oxidant qualities.Sorry for blabbering, hth.

This is a small list though. I have seen the green mountain brand at quite a few supermarkets in my area. If you do an internet search you'll probably find more stuff. I know that i've also seen some k cups and coffee pods that are swiss water process too. I might be mistaken, but I think my whole foods and trader joes carry some type of swiss water process decaf as well. Organic coffees are a good place to look as well. Like that weblink says, unless it clearly states swiss water process it's probably made with chemicals. Incidentally, its a similar situation with teas, so if you should stick to caffeine free teas instead of decaf.
