Hello,

I've been lurking the past couple of months and have posted once or twice, but I have recently decided I would like to be more involved.

Hi there! How much personal information a person decides to divulge is entirely up to her. As for myself, I feel the same way that you do where using real, full names, and pictures are concerned. I don't even use social networking--where I know that, theoretically, I'd have control of who gets to see my info.--b/c I don't like all of that personal info. being out there at all. Any info. can be exploited. Most can be hacked. And in this day and age, it could even jeopardize things like current or future employment. Not a risk I'm willing to take.

There's nothing wrong with remaining anonymous or giving yourself a nickname. Nothing I can see that's dishonest about it at all. Hope to see you around more often.

There is no problem with being more careful about how much you post. I do not post my last name and I never give my actual location, I keep it more vague, like upstate NY. I know some women on the board will use

If you are afraid of someone finding out who you are that you dont want to, its possible & understandable. My BIL found me on these boards...

We dont care if you're anonymous. Share away.

You can be anyone you want to be. There is a woman on the board who does not use her real name at all. We just want to be able to support and help you in any way we can. Welcome.

Lydia is a great example of being "personalized" without giving her real info. She told us that Lydia is the name she'd like to go by, here, and not her real name, and everyone's good with that (and it's not dishonest, because she told us that's what's going on, kwim?) Also, her siggy and several others you'll see around the board either have just a "decorated" name or nickname, or a cartoon-ized picture. You can really do a lot to show your personality without divulging anything you don't want to!
Kelly, who doesn't mind showing pics in siggies, but doesn't have one she wants to use right now...

Hey, honesty is the best policy. If youre not ready or arent comfortable posting your name or a picture or anything like that, its totally fine. Some people just write their initial or username. We wont hold it against you! :) Youre welcome to post here anytime.

LOL, Kelly beat me to the punch! Yes, I do not use my real name A) At least one other woman on the board actually has the same name and B) DH isn't too keen on sharing too much 'real' personal info online. It has worked just fine. To be nice/safe I asked DH and he approved my siggy before I requested and used it. I had been just using my screen name for a bit. I think you should do what you are most comfortable doing. HTH! :-)
