Its been one week since my m/c and d/c. I have taken test at home and its neg. Does that mean that at least my levels are low enough to try again? I havent had any bleeding since d/c. Am also wondering if anyone knows if its safe to try in these next couple weeks? Do I have a better chance of concieving if we try now?

Thank you!

I am so sorry you had to go through a loss. It seems like people get different answers from health care providers on when to TTC again. I had a D&C, then took birth control pills for a month, then started TTC. Most providers recommend waiting at least until after one period to try again. From my understanding, the D&C sucks the uterine lining completely out and it takes some time to rebuild it enough to support a pregnancy. I conceive easily and didn't conceive until the third month trying post D&C even though I tried and timed it right.

Sorry for your loss.

I was told to wait 2 cycles after my D&C. My OB said 'do what I want' when I asked her why?
I did wait 1 cycle, but we didnt get pregnant anyway.

I believe you are supposed to wait at least 2 wks post D&C before anything goes in your vagina to avoid infection.

If your HPTs are negative, then yes it means your hormone levels are dropping appropriately. It might not quite be down to zero yet, but they will be pretty soon.

If you want to TTC again right away, you can, as long as you and your DH are both feeling 100% ready. If you have doubts or are unsure and want/need to wait a little while, that is fine too. Most medical professionals recommend waiting one full cycle, because it gives you a little more time to emotionally heal, it is easier to date a future pregnancy, and like Amy said, it helps to build up your uterine lining. But there is usually no harm in trying again if that is what you really want to do. I dont know if it will help your odds of getting pregnant, but you can always try.

Good point Mindy - you are supposed to wait until the bleeding stops, or for about two weeks afterwards, before resuming intercourse :)

I had my D&C on Friday and as of today, both the Lh and the HcG are both positive. I was confused as to what course of action to take because I do not have regular cycles so I called my doctor.

First of all, Planned Parenthood (where I had my D&C) said no sex for 7 days. They also warned that you could ovulate within 2 weeks of the D&C so if another pregnancy wasn't wanted, you should take bc pills the day after the D&C.

I think it takes 4-6 weeks from the time of the miscarriage until the levels drop to normal and that is the signal to your body to produce the necessary hormones that cause ovulation. The HcG will suppress those hormones during pregnancy.

As far as the lining goes, while a D&C will scrape it pretty thin, a normal cycle will build it up and if the fertilized egg successfully implants, you're good.

The problem would be if your hormone remained elevated or if residual conception tissue remained in your uterus. You wouldn't know if you were testing positive for a new pregnancy or the old one. But, since you are negative, I say go for it!

Just start temping so you know that you ovulated for sure and you have a date to go by if you get a BFP.

Good luck and sorry for your loss. Miscarriage SUCKS.
