Im having my HSG on Wed.

I forget when the told me I could take a motrin, I think it was an hr b4 procedure? Does that sound right?

Also did they tell you anything when they did the test or did you have to wait for results? Its not my Dr doing it, its the radiologist in hospital.

I would take 4 Ibuprofen (800mg) an hour before, it will feel like a couple of real child birth contractions, ouch, but over quickly at least!

Radiologist most likely will not tell you, they usually type up a report and send it to your dr. but you never know!

I just read someone's Dr gave them Vicodin for the pain before! Ouch!
Good thing I have a high tolerance for pain.

Well I was still contemplating on TTC again this cycle but now I may have to since I should O a week after as well. Hmm...

thx for info

Wear the ugliest underwear you have! And go directly home! I was leaking out red fluid for a couple hours and it was gross! I actually forgot to take a painkiller, but I think it's an hour, so it has time to work. It wasn't actually all that painful for me though.

The granny panties is the best advice I can give though. I told my friend the same thing before she had hers done and she was soooo happy.

Oh, and the doctor who did mine basically gave me the "results" right then and there. I was able to see everything as they did it on the screen. Which, I have to say, is kind of cool. I've had 2 other friends have it done and they said the same thing.

Girl to be honest - I took 4 Advil and it didn't help - the cramping is like nothing I've ever felt (and I had horrible contractions when I was m/c), but its nothing you won't be able to endure. We are tough women - we go through a lot and this is just another hurdle in the road of TTC... You will have horrible cramping for like 5 minutes while they are setting things up, but the dye itself doesn't hurt... I got to see as they were injecting and they shared my results with me right there...

GL - hoping they find clear tubes and a nice healthy uterus! :)

I also have a high pain tolerance and didnt take anything before or afterwards. Except a nap, that is. I was exhausted that day, I got poked and prodded so many times!

My advice: Empty your bladder just before the procedure. And wear a pad, and bring some extras with you. You will definitely feel like you are leaking for the rest of the day. You might feel some painful cramping and have light spotting for the next day or two.

They dont usually give you any specific info during the procedure, except maybe to tell you something you already knew, such as "your uterus looks normal/everything is clear." But your dr will make a follow-up appt with you to go over all the findings. and from there s/he will give you a new plan of action, whether it is more testing or new meds regime, or whatever they think is best.

Hope it goes well for you, and isnt too painful.

My doc finally ordered an HSG for me too, but she has prescribed HIGH strength antibiotics for three days before and after. I have no history of infection there except when I had my c/s. Are others taking the Advil in addition to antibiotics or can I leave them off. I don't like taking them as they always seem to leave me with other side effects of killing off good bacteria.

Definetly go with the Advil or Motrin about an hour before. I took 3. Also the granny panties are good advice. I would also say a maxi pad just in case you don't go home right away. They will give you one of the lovely giant hospital type ones though. I had a horrible time while they were settng it up. Once it was set up it was just a few minutes and I could see everything on the screen.

I am allergic to many types of drugs (I took the antiobiotics the RE prescribed though) so I went unmedicated.
