My appointment today went well. The nurse was so sweet and confident! I appreciated it. When she was looking around and measuring, I let her know my left ovary is tucked way up under my tilted uterus. I said, "not that it matters, it never ovulates anymore." After she found it she said, "maybe it will this time. There are 6 follicles there already." WTH? I should have asked her what that's all about but I didn't want to sound ignorant. 6 immature follies on CD2? Think this cycle has a chance of having more than 2 mature? I'll find out on 11/27.

I did a little research and found an article. Aparently CD2 follicles are called "antral"

:) Yes I was just going to type that. Everyone has antral follicles at the beginning of their cycle. Ovaries that don't O have follicles that don't mature most of the time. That is part of the way PCOS is diagnosed. I had over 40 antral follicles my last CD 3 appt. That is not a good thing :( It's what they call polycystic appearing ovaries which is a sympton that is almost required for diagnosing PCOS but you can have polycystic ovaries without have PCOS - they normally like to see another sympton before they will make that dx and I have none.

yikes, 40? From what I read that means you can overreact to the follie-stimulating meds.
So explain more about ovaries that don't O. My leftie used to. Rightie and leftie took turns like they're supposed to. But it hasn't in the last couple yrs.

You're absolutely right about that, Chouli. That is why I had to go to a monitoring appt just about every single day during my meds cycles. Ovarian Hyperstimulation Syndrome is a HUGE risk when you have that many follicles. I ended up almost being cancelled because I had so many follicles (over 10 mature) and they were worried I'd get OHSS or that I would end up with a thousand babies. Turns out I didn't even end up with one even with two back to back IUI's 24 hours apart. Sad huh?

I wish I could explain to you why some women have ovaries that don't release eggs. I don't know why and I'm not sure anyone does. You're right, most woman switch back and forth but some just don't O at all from one or the other for some reason. Outside of your usual suspects; PCOS for example there hasn't been much headway regarding why some women don't O from one ovary or just don't O at all.

I guess I'm lucky Rightie took over for Leftie and goes each month. I worry that I will run out. RE did testing last February and said my ovarian reserve is good...but of course I worry. Do you think injectables or something a little stronger than Femara would kick Leftie into gear?

Hard to say for sure but what I would suspect would happen is that your right would be follicle city and your left might produce one MAYBEEEE two mature follicles. But I think by the time your left was able to produce anything mature you're right might have gone overboard and that just might get you canceled KWIM? The only reason my dr didn't cancel me was because he knew my story and what a terribly long road I have been on.

Yeah, I hear you. When I told DH about the follicles today he was nervous that I would make too many next week. We had to beg her to IUI me with 3 mature last spring. At this point she's almost too conservative for me. I am desperate and we are stable enough personally and financially for multiples. Just get me pg, you know!?

Oh yeah, I would rather 5 babies than no babies :( Obviously, that is not my first choice but I would take it in a second if it meant a successfull pregnancy! Tell DH not to worry about the antral follicle count. The average woman NOT on meds has about 20 (10 on each side) at the beginning of her cycle and only one matures and releases.

I'm glad the nurse was so positive with you and that maybe your "leftie" is the one that's going to give you that PERFECT eggie!!!
