? for chinese herb takers

I know there are a handful of us and Id like your opinions.

My RE wants me to stop taking them. Her reasoning was there is no quality control on it & there are studies where ppl died from taking chinese herbs due to liver failure from pesticides in herbs. She was saying certainly exposing fetus to that wouldn't help.

So I understand all that & certainly I dont want to increase or put potential baby at risk, however, I feel like they have done so much for me so far. I mean I still dont have AF & she's def due & is never delayed even on 400mg of Prometrium. Its also lowered my temps, etc...I had earlier O.

What would you do? DO you feel safe taking your herbs? Are your herbs processed in US? I mean my herbs are mixed in my acupuncturists pharmacy & she just puts them in a bottle for me to make a tea with...

Im definitely conflicted.

Well, you know I don't know anything about herbs - chinese or any other kind except maybe the Cheech and Chong kind LOL but you know ALL dr's are going to err on the side of caution and most are going to be against most any supplement that is not an FDA approved medication so you kind of have to take what she's saying with a grain of salt. Would I continue taking them? You know I wouldn't but do I think you're putting yourself at risk? Probably not...

Hey Mindy

So my RE scared the crap out of me so I took two cycles off of my herbs and I regret it 100%. It put me back two months when I was making such good progress... I trust my acupuncturist 120% that she is going to do the right thing and I'm not the first person she has worked with to get pg. I think most RE's don't know enough about or support eastern medicine because they think it would put them out of business. And then they throw scary stats at you and say people die - seriously? Do you know how much pesticide you would need to ingest to have it do that much damage to your liver that it would kill you? The air we breath everyday, the foods we eat (unless you eat organically) are loaded the harmful things that can kill you. My blossom herbs are made in Taiwan and distributed by a company in CA. I do take the tea that my gal gives me that are just flowers, berries and such, so not sure where she gets them from. Has your gal talked to you about a Moxa stick??

You need to do what is best for you, but I am now back on my meds in hopes of getting back to where I was two months ago.

GL and let me know what you do! :)

Glad to know you feel that way.
i just feel like Ive already come so far in only taking them for a month.

You're right about the air, etc...You're also right about the Dr. aspect & then just not being sure about it.
I so wanted to find a practice like the author of Making Babies where they have eastern med & western in same practice

Im going to keep taking them. My acupuncturist always says stuff about making sure she's very careful about what she's giving me to make sure its safe for a baby.

I just think of it too that they would lose their license to practice if they were doing something that would be harmful.

I'm glad they are making you feel better - I can't wait for mine to kick back in - think it will take a full cycle, but I do feel so much better when I'm on them. :)

I know - I want to go to Randine Lewis (she wrote The Infertility Cure) since she was a western dr. that now practices eastern... Oh to dream...

I don't know anything about taking herbs, but I agree with the previous posts.

Oh no - I wouldn't stop them, I wouldn't have started them. Not because I know anything bad about them or anything or that I am against them. Hmmm how do I explain this and not sound like a total retard...

You ever just have an opinion and really not know why? Like you have no real concrete back up for feeling the way you feel, you just do? That is how I feel about vitamins, herbs and holistic stuff in general.

My mom is HUGE on the stuff. She never takes real meds, just vitamins and herbs and only eats 100% organic food. I will complain about a headache and she's like "how about some of this hair off sheep's balls? It is a great natural pain reliever!" and I'm like "Uhhh no - how about an Advil?"

Anyway, I know of a lot of women who have had success with it but for some reason it has just never appealed to me.

I take the chinese herbs, and basically, they are chemicals you are putting into your body...but you do that when taking Advil...you do that when eating packaged foods.

Ya I just told my DH I was still going to take them & he just rolled his eyes @ me.
My mom also thinks Im crazy.

I know I need to pick up my whole food eating. I was doing better right after I read Infertility Cure but Ive been lax.

My acupuncturist said they used to have pics of babies they helped 'create' but they had taken them down for some reason.

All of the ppl that work there take them as well.

Mindy, I've never taken herbs but just wanted to throw out my experience.

My RE recommended I go to an acupuncturist but told me I should not take the herbs if they offer because they can work opposingly with different meds I am on and kinda counteract things.

I've been going since April once a week....
