Frustrated (semi-OT)

While we're not actively TTC this month (that could change next month, but I'm not sure), I'm trying to look into a few things that could be causing some other symptoms (rapid heart rate, cold - especially in my extremities, insomnia/trouble staying asleep, anxious feelings when there's nothing really that I'm truly anxious about, back aches/muscle aches, joint pain, etc). I was thinking that anemia might be an issue. I spoke with Aubre about some of my blood test levels (RBC, WBC, and all the other things like hemoglobin, hematocrit, and a whole bunch of other things I have no idea what they are...LOL!) and then I started taking iron (SlowFe - I was on it years ago because I was deemed anemic). It's been a little over a week and I'm not noticing any change in how I feel. I understand that it can take a little while, but I would think that if that was my problem, I might be feeling at least a SLIGHT improvement. So, now I'm wondering if I might be B12-deficient. So, I call up my PCP's office to see if they can get me in to either talk about it, or just write out a lab slip to have me get my levels tested. I called yesterday morning and the receptionist said she would talk to the doctor and get back to me. All day, I kept checking my phone to see if they had left a message and nothing. So, I waited all day today, too. An hour before their office closed, I called to see where things were at with that and the receptionist tells me, "Oh, yes, he's looking into it. He needs to research it and see if it's something he wants to send you for." Really? It's a BLOOD TEST. It's not like it's a BIG DEAL either! Sure, I'm requesting it, but he can't find anything else wrong with me. He was quick to send me for a brain MRI to rule out MS and is ready whenever I am to put me on a medication for Fibromyalgia (since we can't pinpoint what else could be causing me to have the joint and muscle pain that I have), but a simple B12 blood test, he is having to take over two days to research and decide if he wants to send me for the test? Really? I'm so baffled.

I suppose that if he doesn't want to send me, I will call my OB/GYN's office and see if they'll test my B12 levels with regard to infertility, but I really hate when I have to go the route of "mommy said no, so I'll go ask daddy," especially since I don't know that the B12 issue is solely related to infertility (even though it can be somewhat related). I've done that before and I hate how it feels to go from one doctor to the next to get what I want. I'm about ready to "fire" this doctor and go find another one who will be more receptive to me. He used to be great about helping me figure things out, but now I'm wondering if all these tests that come up negative are just irritating him and my requesting another test, he's just thinking it might be normal, too. UGH!

I'm frustrated with doctors! Sorry - just needed to vent.

Ok, so the doctor still hasn't called back yet (and it's been 3 full days since I first called). Do you all think I should call back and ask what he is needing to research and if I should be coming in to talk to him or if perhaps he would feel more comfortable referring me to a specialist? I'm just not sure this guy knows what he's doing and perhaps he's not really wanting to deal with me and my issues. What would you all do if you were in my shoes? Wait it out until he finally decides what to do, or just get the ball rolling in some other direction and see what happens?

Dani, did you have to be referred to the rheumatologist? I don't even know if my PCP would send me. UGH! He's a decent doctor in some ways, but I know that I baffle him in so many other ways. I'm still waiting (I called Tuesday morning shortly after they opened) and I still haven't heard from them about whether they'll even send me for the B12 test.

As for the tender points, I don't even know if I have enough to qualify. I have a really, really high tolerance for pain, so if they press somewhere it might be tender, but not really anything worse than pressing on a slightly sore muscle, or it might not hurt right then, but then later on, it'll hurt. I was pressing on the inner part of my knee joint last night and it didn't really hurt, but then later on, even the slightest brush against that point that I pressed, it felt like when you touch a horrible bruise even just ever so lightly. In fact, it still hurts in that spot. So weird. I just don't get it. I do want to get this B12 test done to rule that out and then make a request to see a rheumatologist. I did have my TSH and T4's checked. But, nothing else thyroid-related. The TSH and T4 were in normal ranges each time I had them tested. I am really, really tempted if the doctor doesn't call me back tomorrow early enough, I'll call and see if perhaps they could refer me to someone who might know better how to treat me (or test me) so that I can get moving with all of this. UGH! I'm pretty disappointed with most doctors right now.

Hey Tee,
I have fibromyalgia...have had it at least 8 years. You need to see a rheumatologist to be diagnosed. They look for tender points. I had 14 out of 18 of them. Your symptoms could be indicative of a thyroid issue as well. A good rheumatologist will run every test under the sun to rule out every other thing, and also do the tender point test.

I hope they figure out what's going on. {{{{{HUGS}}}}}
