Had my D&C today

Everything went good with the d&c. Dr. F (my OB) wants to do testing in 6 weeks to see if there are any reasons why I've had 2 m/c's. They sent the embryo to pathology, but he said they wouldn't do in depth testing on it, since it was *only* my 2nd m/c. He said it's expensive, and they usually only do that after 5-6 m/c's. I wonder if they'll tell Dr. F if it was a boy or a girl. DH said he doesn't want to know, but I think I do. I was far enough along that they should be able to tell without DNA testing. He said I did bleed a little more than expected, but not bad - no transfusion. He does have me on Cytotec for the next few days. My bp was 46 on the bottom when I woke up, so that scared me a little. Other than that - no complications. He said we could try again immediately, or wait, but then he wanted me to do the testing if I'm not pg in 6 weeks. I think I will just wait and let my body recover and do the testing.

Sorry you are going through this. My doc said the same to me about the in depth embryo testing as it was my second m/c too. Hope your recovery goes smoothe.

I sm so sorry you had to go through that. Positive thoughts for a speedy recovery. I will say that we had the genetic testing done. We got an answer and maybe that gave us some closure, but it doesn't really reflect future odds. And, yes, it is expensive.

Thank you both. It wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be, thankfully.

Chouli - Did you have the genetic testing done on the embryo/fetus, or was the testing done on you? I think what he's wanting to do in 6 weeks is determine if there is a reason for having multiple m/c's. He mentioned that some things can be treated with baby aspirin or other medications. He doesn't think we need to do full genetic testing on both me and DH b/c we have a healthy baby in between the two m/c's.

(((HUGS))) I think waiting and letting your body heal is a good idea. I know that I wasn't ready, in my frame of mind, to start TTC until after my first AF post-D&C. I wanted to make sure that my body was back to working properly.

I think he's right about not needing the full work up b/c you do have a healthy baby. We had testing done on our LO and on each of us. We don't have any babies together yet and we're "older", so it seemed like the right thing to do. Our LO had trisomy 13, and we are not carriers so it was a 1 in 10,000 genetic error.

Thank you so much for sharing. I know it can be hard sometimes, so I really appreciate it.

I couldn't sleep last night because I just felt empty. DH said he understood, then fell right to sleep. He had to work today, so I didn't bother him about it. We grieved for our LO, but I didn't expect to feel this way about the physical separation. It's just a process I'm still working through. Anyone else feel this way?
