HSG is this afternoon, a little nervous!

I have my HSG test this afternoon and I'm feeling a little bit nervous. Of course, it doesn't help that I am under stress at work (even though, yes, I am technicallly now on a reduced schedule. I guess the stress never ends!)

Two people have told me the HSG was no big deal for them, but everyone else I talked to said it is painful and SUCKS.

Kelly, mom to 4 year old Lexi, wife to Rob TTC Number 2 since April 2010, with a loss in June 2010 at 4.5 weeks, and a loss in April 2011 at 8 weeks (possibly ectopic). Saw the RE in May 2011, we were moving forward with testing and an IUI when we

Good luck! Mine was not painful. More just uncomfortable - some pinching with the stuff all stuck up my hoo-ha. But, I never felt the dye, even though the doctor said that it kind of hesitated before entering my tubes. She let me watch the whole thing on the screen. It was so weird and interesting all at the same time. :)

My only thing is that I think they nicked something around my cervix because I did bleed for a few hours afterward. They said to bring a pad (although they did provide one, in case I forgot), but I figured that would be just for the dye leaking out, which it did - a lot. But, I'm glad I had it for the bleeding too. I guess that's just what all that pinching was about - it nicked my insides!

The doctor was able to tell me right then and there that she didn't see anything that would cause a problem with TTC. Not sure if your doctor will do the same, or if they will just do the procedure without saying a word and then just leave you to clean yourself up and go home. I hope they'll tell you something right there, though. They should be able to tell immediately if you have anything abnormal or any blockages.

The good thing is that afterward, your tubes will be lubed up. The doctor who did my HSG told me that the first 3 cycles post HSG are the best for conceiving. :)

Yes, I am with Tee and you know I'd be straight with you. Not really painful as uncomfortable. You really do want them out of there ASAP but I wasn't crying or anything. Good luck and I am thinking about you!

Good luck, Kelly! I hope the HSG wasn't too bad.

I have a deposition this morning, so no time for the full story, but it wasn't bad AT ALL and everything looks good! More details this afternoon!

Good! I'm glad it all looks good and that it wasn't painful or horrible. :) I think the horror stories are the ones you hear the most simply because when people have an OK experience, they aren't shouting that from the rooftops about how OK it was! :) It's kind of like when you go to check out product reviews on something, you're going to usually get the two extremes - the people who absolutely hated the product and the people who can't say enough good things about it. Most people who are decently satisfied or for whom the product does what they expect it to, they aren't necessarily going to think to go write reviews on all sorts of websites. Being that I highly doubt any woman is going to be over the moon excited over an HSG (LOL! I can't even picture it!), you're going to mostly hear about the horrible experiences until you ask others who have had them about it on a forum like this. :)

What's the next step for you?
