When I did my initial consult with the RE back in February, he mentioned that my ovaries looked "very mildly" PCOS.

I have PCOS, don't O at all, but am not insulin resistant or anything. My RE put me on it and actually, I didn't notice ANY side effects at all. I was on 100mg and just took both pills together before bed. Everyone is different with its side effects though, some people have really bad ones. I'm with Michelle though, it won't hurt you, and it *may* help. Might be worth a try for a while. It can also help prevent miscarriage in people with PCOS, so if you do get PG you'd stay on it until about week 13 or 14.

Oh no - you can start it whenever you want to! It's not really a fertility drug so it doesn't care what CD you're on LOL

I have just recently started metformin - I do have some of the symptoms of PCOS, but I do not have it either. I also passed my insulin test.

My doc said that it seems to help the body respond better to clomid - I too O late - even on clomid, last cycle cd21, the cycle before that cd18 and the cycle before that cd38 and all three were on clomid.

As for the side effects - definitely messes with the digestive system!!! My doc started me on 500mg a day for a week, then upped it each week until I was up to 2000mg a day - he told me if I noticed a severly upset tummy to back it down a pill for a few days, then go up again.

I did completely lose my appetite for the first few weeks - I lost 13 pounds in the two weeks after taking it! Mind you I'm still over my pre-pregnancy weight, so I've got plenty left to lose!

I still don't have the appetite I used to have, but at least it doesn't upset my tummy anymore!!!!!

Good Luck - if you decide to do it, I hope it works for you!!! This will be my second full cycle on 2000mg, so I'm hoping it works for me too :)

It gave me diarrhea really bad also but I was forwarned about that and was told it would subside after my body acclamated itself to the drug and it did stop after about a week. It's very important you take it with food!

They put me on Metformin years ago when they thought that I had PCOS because my sister has it. My RE doesn't think I have it since I am so regular and blood tests ok. I took it for awhile but I stopped because it was causing issues with my digestive tract (diarrhea, etc). I would suggest making sure you have PCOS because the side effects kinda suck. At least it did for me.

Good luck! A side note, my PCOS sister has 3 kids and I have none yet. go figure!
