Post D&C follow up appointment today

And it went well. Overall pretty much a waste of time. She didn't do a pelvic exam and told me my HCG was finally at 5 yesterday so I don't have to get tested anymore. She prescribed me 5mg of folic acid and told me to take baby aspirin as well and to keep taking it when I get pg. She said that it could possibly help with the pre-e that I get when I'm pregnant and at the very least it couldn't hurt.

She asked me how many periods I've had since the D&C and I told her one and she told me to wait for one more and then to try again. I am literally only a few days away from O and was planning to try. I don't know what to do. Shoud I be the good little patient and do as she says? or should I throw caution to the wind and try this cycle? I am torn. DH thinks we should do it anyways and I know there's no real solid medical advice on this. WWYD???

Go for it! You already had one cycle break. Don't miss another chance!

Amanda - This is CD8 for me and AF has finally tapered off into spotting. You'll make the decision that you make. As for me, while I'm itching to TTC, I'm going to wait another cycle. I don't even know if I'll O this month, but I'd like to try to lose a few of the pounds still left over from my PG, get in to the dentist for a cleaning, and do a few other things before getting back into it. I know that plenty of women have O'ed and had successful pregnancies that began the 1st cycle post D&C, but I'm just too freaked with the few bad PG stories I've heard here and elsewhere. If I got PG again now and lost it soon after, I don't know what I'd do. We've had so much other bad stuff happening in our lives lately that I think I'd just go nuts.

Glad that your appointment went well, and best to you in deciding whether to TTC right away.

Thanks for the reply Julia. I am terrified of having another m/c but can't see why I necessarily would, kwim? It's been 6 weeks since my m/c and I've had a normal AF so I thought I would be good to go. I don't know what to think. If I knew that waiting one cycle would guarantee me a healthy pg I would do it in a second. Not to mention it's not like a guarantee that I get pg again right away so I don't want to waste cycles, but if I do go for it and have another m/c I don't want to feel like I should've listened and waited. Not to mention I don't want to get in trouble from my OB! lol

Thanks Lindsay. I think I want to just try right now. When you didn't wait one full cycle do you mean you just DTD the first time you O'd? Because I feel like I've already waited one full cycle and missed out on that O but I wanted to get my AF back on my own first. I don't know. I'm leaning towards going for it! I don't think I'll be able to abstain when I know I"m O-ing!

When I say we didn't wait 1 full cycle I mean that, in March,

Amanda, I feel just like you. I want to see some stats that the miscarriage rate is really higher if we get pregnant after waiting only one full cycle. I was planning on waiting two cycles but changed my mind two pills into my second pack of birth control pills. So here I am in the same situation as you throwing caution to the wind.

Well I have had AF back since the D&C so I guess I've waited one full cycle already. I wonder why she wants me to wait two. Overly conservative I suppose.

Yeah I know Amy. I haven't seen anything in all my googling that supports this waiting more than one cycle advice, but yet the docs still dish it out like it's gospel. Oh well. I guess I have to make a decision and live with it. I just wish there was some way to know for sure that the next pg will be the one, you know?

I dont have my appt for a few more weeks.
I havent had betas checked though.

I asked my Dr before D&C why do you say wait 2 cycles. She just said that the body has a chance to recover & build up lining & then said do what you want. To me that says there is no real proof that it makes a difference.

I did not wait after chemical & it still took me 6m anyway.

Im not sure what Ill do. I actually feel better skipping this month but I havent had AF yet, though I know I O'd a few days ago. Im mentally not ready. Part of me also feels like Ive already got issues so should I really push it?? I think maybe we'll just not prevent & see what happens w/o charting & OPKs.

*mindy*
