what my medical insurance did to me! :/

I was under medicare (because of a disability) for a number of years, and was trying to cancel my coverage (even before I was pg. for 1st time), because I was going on DH's policy.  I tried unsuccessfully last sept. & Oct. to cancel, they lost my forms I signed, then I became pg. in Oct., so I just decided to stay on medicare, instead of going thru the hastle of going down to social security office, etc.  And I was now pg. (in Oct), the pregnancy lasted 7 weeks, then at 11 weeks found out bean died, so had to go in hospital to have a D&C (In Jan.) Well, SEVEN months, down the road medicare finds all the paperwork I signed & not only cancels me, BUT cancels me effective in Nov., and is now asking all the money back, that they already paid out in claims!!

So, not only did I have to go thru a m/c, I am getting kicked in the face again, by having to pay, out of pocket, all the money for doctor & hospital fees!!

I am 'trying' to negotiate a reduced price & pay them back, what medicare is asking back....but, I'm not sure if it will be good enough? And they will report this to my credit agency?!

I can't believe I am in this mess right now!  I 'thought' having a m/c was bad enough!!  :smileyfrustrated:

I am so sorry you have to go through this after everything you have been through.  It just is not fair.  I hope that everything is figured out quickly and in your favor.

Yeah, Melissa....I, actually was covered under DH's policy from Oct. to Jan. 3 (dropped Jan. 3rd, due to not signing a form, because we weren't married yet).  If worse comes to worse, if I get calls for dr.s appointments in December, I will submit my Blue Cross Ins.  But (of course) I had my D&C on Jan. 4th!!  So, if medicare won't cover that? I'm screwed!

I just can't believe, I tried for TWO MONTHS, unsuccessfully, to cancel medicare, they lost the forms I signed....then SEVEN months later they find the forms I signed?

All the claims are already paid out....unbelievable.  I filed paperwork for request of payment for Dec. & Jan. for what medicare already paid. I hate insurance!

That totally stinks! Shouldn't Blue Cross be backdating their coverage to the time when they dropped you? Sorry if you already covered that, insurance issues give me a headache. I hate dealing with them myself, it's never good news.

Thanks Jess, so this is my next step.....I am going to appeal what medicare did to me, explain the whole situation, because they royaly screwed me! And then tell the doctors & hospital, I am appealing medicare, for time being and will give them answer to money, once I get one....but either way if medicare or I have to pay for it, it will be what medicare pays....I already have copies of the claim forms, that they already paid & that is all I am paying (if I have to pay for it)....I'm sure it will take months to figure this out, that's how medicare works!  :smileyfrustrated:

Oh wow I am so sorry to hear that:smileysad: I would call the hospital and let them know what happened and see if they will help with any of the medical Expenses. Considering the situation. Hang in there and keep me updated

Thanks Aimee, well, I was looking thru the benefits that medicare already paid out and are asking back.  So, I am hoping everyone will be happy with us paying what medicare originally paid.  Because the hospital balance is about $6600 and there's NO WAY we are paying that much!!  Medicare paid only $1345....so if they aren't happy with that, they will just have to report it to my credit, I guess!  :smileyfrustrated:

Yes, please keep me in prayer this all works out.....I just can't believe this happened!

I am learning that no matter how dilegent I am, there is always something that will fall through the cracks! Anyways, if they aren't going to be happy with a 'settlement amount' paid to not go after full amount & report it to my credit.  I just won't pay them anything then.  I wonder how I can make sure, if they accept the amount I offer, that they still won't report it to my credit, for the rest of the amount owed?

I am 'trying' to do the right thing by paying, but it doesn't seem like it matters!  If the amount owed is only a few hundred dollars, are they willing to write the rest off?

OMG, this is a mess!

Wow!! That's horrible you had to go thru all that!!  At least, I got to just have the one & I got to heal emotionally, than have to deal with all this crap.

Yes, I was lucky enough to be able to join DH's policy, once I found out I was dropped from my part B of medicare & the only reason I could was because that they just dropped me, Blue Cross did take a couple of weeks to review the circumstances though.  And, of course, I was pg. again, so I found out I was covered about a week before we lost our 2nd bean.

Anyways, just trying to negotiate with all the dr.s visits & hospital fee. We'll see what happens!
