Hi there to all the oldies! Ryan Dennis entered this world at 1am on November 17--10 days before his due date. I had a routine OB appointment on the 16th and was 6cm dilated, 90% effaced and +1 station. I thought that you had to be in active labor to have those numbers, but was walking around like that nonetheless. I started having mild BH contractions several hours after my appointment and was afraid to go home (I work at the hospital.) I stayed at work, timing my contractions, and after 2 hours of (still mild)contractions every 6-12 minutes, I decided to check myself into the hospital. I had been a bit hesitant as I knew they would admit me, and I didn't want to be induced, but I didn't want to go home and have the baby there or on the way back to the hospital. At any rate, they did admit me bypassing L&D triage. I didn't let them break my water until I had had another hour of regular contractions that were starting to be more painful. They broke my water and I got my epidural which initially was only one sided, but when they replaced it worked great. After several hours, I was complete, and after 10 minutes of pushing, Ryan emerged and they told us "it's a boy!" He was 8 pounds 3 ounces and 20 inches long. He caught on to nursing like a champ and is such a little angel! He will sleep 3-5 hour stretches at night (which my daughter didn't do until almost a year!) Our daughter is adjusting reasonably well and most of the time loves her little brother (otherwise she simply ignores him). We are so happy and so blessed! Good luck and new baby dust to those still trying!
