BF and pregnancy tests

Hey,

I am having deja vu. I am over 2 weeks late and have taken one preg test and it was negative. This also happened with my son, I took 3 tests and was negative, then a blood test determined i was pregnant. This time I am breastfeeding, so I didn't know if that had anything to do with the testing.....I only got my period one time since I had the Mirena removed. Anyways, has anyone else had this happened while TTC and BF??

When do you think I should go and get a blood test?

thanks for your input!

Bummer!!

I highly recommend the book Taking Control of your Fertility... it's a great book for learning about charting and cycles in general. I tend to have wonky cycles so it really helped me know all my signs. Makes charting pretty painless.

I also use fertilityfriend dot com to keep track of everything.

Good luck!

I have heard of it but never know anyone per se that had it happen to them. Well actually I think my mum told me it happened to her with one of her four children - they told her at the doctor's office that the test was - (HPT not blood work) and she knew she was. I think for sure if it happened to you once it could happen again so good for you for asking for a blood test. That would be an awesome explanation as to why you are feeling so yucky - good luck and let us know...super curious for you :) Still no sign of AF? I agree with Wahine in that if you are not preggo maybe charing and/or using OPK's would be helpful for you to know what is going on.

Wow, I never have! Interesting!

If that is the case, you might find charting/temping really helpful. I was able to confirm our BFP just by watching our chart and temps.

I don't think that BF'ing has anything to do with actual results you are seeing on the test...but you could be having an extra long cycle so AF could be later then usual for you or you could not even be O'ing yet. Do you know for sure if you O'd this cycle or are you just assuming you did since AF came back? I would suggest you test again and maybe even get a blood test just to ease your mind (or confirm your suspicions!).....if it is negative, I think it would be helpful for you to start using OPk's (bought cheap on line!) and temping/charting to show when you O for sure and then when AF can be expected. Let us know what happens - I am curious and hopeful for you....did you ever get a + on the HPT after blood test last time?

I hear ya on not liking knowing what's going on.... charting my CM really helped me get tabs on what was going on and ocassionally temping.

I'm not sure why BFing would impact HPTs... since the hormone they're looking for is unrelated to BFing... but I'm sure other more seasoned mommas will hop in on the conversation.

My only thought is that if you're still having long cycles it might be hard to pin point when you are late, unless you were using OPKs or charting to confirm O. That could also be the cause of the negatives.

Regardless... best of luck!!

oh, when i conceived the first time, I had long cycles, 38 days or so. I read other comments that said you can have long cycles the first few times after your period returns.....i dont like not knowing whats going on, ya know?!
