Blood work etc... questions for those who know...

I finally went to see the midwife - i know I know I've been here forever.... there's just so little that I'm willing to do (medically intervening etc)

She ordered bloodwork at CD 3 and 21 then I'll call once they recieve the results to schedule an appointment to discuss it. DH is getting another sperm analysis too (we think they waited too long to do the analysis since he was kept waiting (with the sample) for longer than we'd expected he would.

Now for my question. I ovulate late (regularly on cycle day 19 or 20) I have temped too so I know this to be accurate. The standard blood work is based on the average woman's cycle (28 days, not my 31 days). Shouldn't that second set of bloodwork be pushed back a day or two? What if I have a month like last month (not normal) where I o'd on CD 22? The bloodwork wouldn't look normal and I certainly don't want to have to have more bloodwork done than necesary (eck I hate it).

I did ask my midwife this, and admittedly she isn't the one of the group (of 8 or so midwives) who typically works with TTC. But she checked with one of the ones who does primarily work with TTC patients and said it'd still be CD 21. Am I crazy? I'm thinking I might call the office and double check especially if ovulation hasn't been confirmed by CD 21. annoying though.

Not crazy. The CD21 draw is to check your progesterone and other hormone levels 7DPO. So right, if you O on CD 20 you'll get skewed results doing a draw on CD21.

If you feel confident with your charting skills... just go in for the draw at 7DPO. That's what I did (I new when my O was due to injections).

That's just my 2cents. :)

I got a call from the midwives - this time I talked to Sheri, who's the one who specializes in TTC. My day 3 bloodwork was normal but my estrogen levels were a bit lower than normal. She said this is possibly because day three may have been early to do day three testing (considering my longer cycles). So they're going to re-test the estrogen the next time too. And she was calling to tell me to definately get that second set of bloodwork done on CD 25 not 21 so we were right. :) And I love her positivity - before hanging up the phone she cheerfully told me, "don't worry, and keeep trying!" I love it when medical people tell you to have lots of sex. lol.

I know my Re checked progesterone right after ovulation. So not the day draw, but a draw to see if the number went up to confirm O. So I would say it depends on what they are looking for, whether it matters what Dpo your draw is on. I do think the second draw is pointless if you haven't ovulated. Although, my Re did that too, just to confirm that I hadn't!
