Does anyone else have low temps?

I've been doing tons of research to try to see if I can make an impact on my cycle just by changing my nutrition (Fertility, Cycles and Nutrition by Marilyn Shannon) and I read in there that preovulatory temps below 97.2 are unusual and post-O temps of less than 98 are also unusual. My temps tend to be in the 96s pre and upper 97s post. I only got into the 98s when I was pregnant or just very occaisionally. Now I'm worried that something is wrong with me. Has anyone else had this experience. Not to make it even more confusing, but my older sister has had six children, no m/cs and her temps are low like mine. I really wish I knew what was going on!

Thanks for responding. I don't think the open mouth thing could be the issue, unfortunately, because the temps are so consistently low. The book that I am reading right now has nutritional and supplemental advice that I'm trying to follow before taking the plunge into actual medical procedures. I'm really not a fan of hospitals in general, and my doctor does not think highly of all of my self-diagnosis. She doesn't believe that progesterone therapy works, and she was amazed at my sucessful use of NFP and my regular cycles despite my lack of "regulators" such as the birth control pill. We're really not a good match, but I'm not really feeling up to doctor shopping right now. If I get pregnant, I'll be seeing a homebirth midwife.

I'm just trying to be optimistic. The fact that my sister also has such low temps, and no losses encourages me. I hope that just cleaning up my lifestyle will. I quit caffeine, cut down on sugar, and am supplementing with prenatals, B complex, flax seed, and fish oil.

I have low temps... also fertility issues. One check is to be sure your sleeping with your mouth closed. When I sleep catching flies my temp is always insanely low ;)

Low temps and thyroid issues are connected. It might be well worth your time to do CD3 blood work which tests all your hormones and your TSH (if I remember correctly) for your thyroid. There's a huge range of "normal" thyroid numbers... I'd check the Fertility Charting Board for the actual number you want it to be for TTC... I think it's somewhere around 1... but don't quote me on it. :)

Though my temps are low.. just edging 97 pre O and post o high 97s with occasional 98s (lol sounds like I'm giving you the weather) my thyroid was in the normal range while TTC our 2nd and we still had troubles for a year.

Best of luck-
