Dr.s appointment a bust....

Ugh. I'm so mad at myself. I wish I had been more forceful this morning at my pap appointment.

My secret plan was to get an ultrasound and a script for a trigger.......I ended up seeing my nurse prac. instead of my beloved Dr.......

So I tell her about my all month long type cramping....she says it's age related.....yeah it stinks, etc., etc.......I can tell I'm not getting an ultrasound based on that....so I decide to be more upfront. I say.....you know on clomid.....you get more follies, but aren't your chances better with a trigger? Especially at my age? Can you just get a script for a trigger after you get a positive opk? (insert innocent look) or is it more involved than that? She says it's more involved...they'd probably want an ultrasound....so I say...."Oh....could you do that after a pos. opk, or is it a scheduled day sort of thing? (add another innocent look). She says they schedule it.......and didn't say much else. Then she says, "So let's cross our fingers!" Good bye. Ack!!!!!! Why didn't I say something else!!!!

Dang. Part of me is just resigned to hoping clomid on it's own does something this month and part of me wants to call my Dr. and talk to her directly. But I don't have much time....since today is CD9. Last month I O'd on CD12....don't know what to expect on clomid. Wouldn't I have to have an ultrasound pretty quickly to decide when to trigger? Like TODAY would have been nice. Dang it!!! But maybe if I wait to see when I O on clomid, I'd have a better idea of when to have an ultrasound next month? I don't know. I don't want to do clomid more than a few times....I don't want to waste a cycle. Dang!

Hi Dee...

If I were you I would call to talk to my doctor...Tell her you were talking to the nurse prac and you think you'd like to do an u/s and etc......she won't be able to see your innocent face look but maybe you could sniffle or something lol!! :)...I mean the worst thing she could say is no right??

Oh and what's a trigger?

Good luck!

I finally got up the nerve and called the office back......I left a message and hopefully my Dr. will call me tomorrow....

A trigger shot is a shot of hcg to induce ovulation. I believe that it's supposed to help your body release all mature eggs....to give you a better chance.

I figure, at 44....the more eggies I get out there the better.

We'll see what she says.

Hey Dee :) I am so sorry that nurse was not helpful to your cause at all.......I have never had the experience of not seeing my doctor at a doctor's appt. so can imagine how frustrated you must feel. I hope your doc. calls back and let's you get that ultrasound. I think perhaps the approach of being very upfront is a better strategy at this point. If you don't ask - you won't get the chance of Dr. saying yes - it seems like your doctor is pretty open to you and your goal of another baby......

As for the clomid, I am glad you are not feeling any side affects.....I didn't notice them until I was on maybe cycle 3 of it. For the first 2 I was wondering what the big fuss was....by cycle 3, I felt completely out of control with my emotions. I don't think this is everyone's experience for sure - I hope you get a BFP this cycle and never have to find out.

Okay, now go campaign for your trigger shot and let's get O'ing!

Good luck and hugs, Jasmine

That's interesting about the side effects, Jasmine. Did your dosage to up the 3 cycles you did it? Or was it just the cumulative effect?
If it were not for my temps being higher than normal, I wouldn't know I took it at all.

I don't want to do clomid for more than 2 or 3 cycles, max. Which is another reason that I finally decided to call yesterday. I figure if I'm only going to do this twice, I'd better use the big guns, kwim?

When are you doing an ultrasound, btw? How are you doing?

I think I was on 100mg (is that the right measure? - it was 100 something!) daily. I remember thinking, hey this stuff is fine - what's the fuss - as I said, by the 3rd round I wanted to beat everyone up with a lot of rage! Maybe that was just frustration that it wasn't working and I blamed the drugs?!

AFM - just fine but anxious - my US is on Friday....just 3 sleeps away hurray! I don't feel much - just a little nauseous and dinnertime is a challenge each night. I am I guess a little worried as I don't feel much going on right now - at the beginning I was crampy and felt weird pulling, stretching etc. Now I just feel kind of tired and sometimes sick, and have a sore back from my graceful fall down the stairs! Need to see that heartbeat and then I will feel more secure :)

I second Jasmine on the clomid effects. I was on it for 3 cycles, the the side effects/syptoms didn't show up for me until the 2nd or 3rd cycle. I was on 50mg the first time around and had no side effects then they uped it to 100mg for the last two...All I know is by the 3rd cycle (which did result in my BFP) I was seeing double, and had really bad hot flashes not to mention the CRAZY emotions.

I guess it won't hurt to ask for a trigger, accept I thought your ins. wouldn't pay for it? Either way it's good that you called your doc since you were expecting to see her instead of the NP. I know it must have been such a let down to think about it all week long and then get there and not even get to see your Dr, I think the office should have let you know that.

I also didn't get symptoms until a few cycles... I was on it for 6 or 7 cycles... the last 3 or 4 were 150mg.. OMG... what a nut I was! Every side effect in the book started for me my 3rd cycle which was 100mg... OMG I shudder just thinking about those times! lol!

Just in case they decide not to pull out the big guns for ya just wanted to letcha know that you're still really on the right track. All the trigger does is pop out your biggest follies which isn't any different than what your body does already. I remember my RE (who was one of the pioneers in IVF way back when) saying the purpose of the trigger was so that they could pin point when you would O was so that they could best time other interventions such as an IUI. So should the talk with your Dr be a bust take a lil' comfort knowing that your chances this cycle are still really good with the Clomid doing the work to create a bunch of happy lil' eggies. :)

Best of luck!!

Really? That's interesting....it would be good. I thought that the trigger was supposed to make you O all of the mature follies.....

I'll ask my doctor tomorrow b/c she called back and is having me come in for an ultrasound. Yeah!!!! She didn't say anything about doing a trigger in her message, but at least I can talk to her about it tomorrow. Last cycle, I got a positive opk on cd11...which is tomorrow. So....if that happens this time, I might not have time to get a script and get the trigger anyway.....I either have to drive over an hour or have it express shipped overnight....not a lot of time to work with. Maybe clomid will delay my O...

At any rate, I'm dying to see what's going on in there! I'm very happy about that!
