Pregnant and BF- Folic Acid requirements?

I've been talking my pregnancy vitamins since before DS was conceived two years ago. It contains 400mg of Folic Acid. I've googled a bit just now and read that BF mums need 500mg of Folic Acid every day. So I haven't been taking enough unless my diet has been topping me up enough.

I'm wondering how much I need now that I'm pregnant AND breastfeeding. I can't find that info anywhere. Does anyone know where I'd find reliable info?

I don't think the BF'ing should make any difference to your folic acid requirements but check out Kellymom.com and see if there is any info. there. Eat your broccoli and spinach - should boost you up to appropriate amount! When I was BF'ing and pregnant I just took my regular prenatal. However I might add some extra calcium in there.

IIRC it's 800 mcg while pg and nursing. I would try to get it from food sources as there is a debate over the synthetic folic acid vs folate.
