I haven't used the cream yet, but I have ordered some. Natural progesterone cream is available OTC in the US, but not in Canada. I did some research and found a study that showed that women using the cream have very similar blood serum progesterone as women taking progesterone orally. Even though the progesterone pills have much higher levels of progesterone, most of it is destroyed by the digestive system. The cream is much more easily absorbed. I've read that many women have used the cream to induce a period. I'm thinking of trying that in another month or so if I don't see PPAF before then.

I'm thinking Sunday might know something...I know she tried it this cycle.

I don't know anything other than it can mess with your mind at the end of your cycle...lengthening your lp and giving symptoms that mimic pregnancy. ; )

I don't know that it can hurt anything, though. Others will know more, I hope and chime in.

Good luck!

BTW, when you first called your Dr. were they helpful to you? I called mine yesterday wanting to know if I could get an fsh test done on day 3 this next cycle. The nurse said....."well, we can schedule you for a consult the end of August." Huh? So I have to wait a month to have a consult and THEN wait until whenever my next day 3 rolls around? Ugh.

Hi Erin,
Sorry to be a bit scatter-brained....I think that this would work in the same way as the prometrium. The things I know about progesterone cream are; make sure it says USP on the label. It can be made from wild yams, but must have already been synthesized in the lab to turn it into progesterone. And, it will make you feel totally and completely pregnant :(

Erin,

I just took progesterone the second part of my cycle. It hurt, but only emotionally :(

You will feel every which way pregnant. If you actually do get pg, you keep taking the cream, and go to the doc and say, "gosh, I was taking this progesterone cream to lengthen my lp/or treat PMS, and silly me, went and got pregnant" They need to monitor your progesterone if you stop using the cream, to make sure it doesn't drop any, because if it does, a miscarriage is possible. So, again, if you get a bfp, you keep using the cream.

The one hard thing is that you will feel pregnant, but you either a: will get your period despite the cream, or b: need to stop taking the cream to get your period. If b, then you have to feel comfortable that you're not pregnant, because otherwise it's not the easiest thing to stop taking it when you know you might miscarry if you are, if that makes sense.
I hope that helps. Good luck!!!!! I hope this does the trick for you. One of us old fogies needs to get pregnant already ;)

Erin,

I haven't read through the other posts, so this may be repeated or refuted :o)

I read somewhere that since the body produces like 400x the amount of progesterone when you're pregnant than when you're not, that it's very difficult to "overdose" or have too much progesterone from the cream...
