A question about male fertility...

Obviously I don't have the answers to anything right now... but DH's doc has put him on Adrogel for low testosterone levels... he's been on it for maybe 6 weeks? I'm reading tonight (because i really need something else to worry about?) online that it can decrease sperm counts all the way to 0 and that it can be irreversable? This is just internet stuff so I'm sure DH's doctor knows what he's doing... Does anyone know anything about this? I know DH has had a sperm analysis (and i don't have the results in front of me - nor do I remember what the results eluded to)... but what I read tonight really freaked me out. Our insurance won't pay for the hormone replacement shots (which the internet says is better fertility wise) and DH tried clomid (yeah I know...) but it made him really iritable etc (which we just couldn't handle given all his other stuff going on).

Hey there - well I don't know about what your doctor gave your DH but I do think it is worth getting a second opinion from an RE if that is not who you are dealing with now. My Dh's doctor had 2 sperm analysis' done for him at different times - both came back at absolute dismal levels and very poor results. When we had them done through our fertility clinic that uses their in house lab and tech's the results were very different and much better. According to them the outside labs that most doctors use do not know how to do the counts properly and often leave the samples out for too long etc. Keep in mind we are in Canada so it works differently here, but worth a shot to get the opinion of somebody who deals exclusively with fertility. Better that then to find out the stuff the doctor gave you is actually working to the opposite effect.

Thanks jasmine! That's actually part of what we're thinking... is that the sperm analysis was done too late. I guess we'll find the time soon to locate an RE who'll take us / our insurance, at least for another analysis.
