Question for clomid users

Hey, all....

Twiddling my thumbs trying to take my mind off the bfn's.... Trying to plan for next cycle.....

I took 50 mg. clomid this time. On CD11 ultrasound I had 2 big follies, one 20.5 and one 18....she said there were some more but were too small to mention or measure. My lining was only 6 at that time. I O'd on my own 3 days later. So hopefully, my lining was o.k. by then.

Question: do you think a doctor would consider bumping me up to 100 mg.? Does upping your does make follies grow faster or just make more follies? I don't need them to grow faster as my lining sucked at CD11 as it was. But I would like more follies this time to do a trigger.

How does going up to 100 mg. change things?

Here's my 2 cents.

You increase the dose, you increase side effects that make it more difficult to get preggo.

You had an O on CD 14... really can't ask for anything more perfect from that from Clomid. The higher I went in doses the more side effects I had- including CM dry up- which of course DEcreases the chance of getting preggo. Other side effects that can increase are cysts and thinner lining. I truly wish I could have stayed on 50mg... the side effects by my 6th month and at 150mg were really trying for our whole family.

And all that being said... hopefully no other scripts are needed!! :)

I have to agree with the PP. I was on Clomid 50mg for two cycles to conceive DD. In my case, I wasn't o'ing on my own, or at least not very often, like once every 3 to 6 months. I was referred to a fertility clinic and before prescribing anything they insisted on ruling out all other causes through an HSG and SA for DH, even though it was obvious I wasn't o'ing because I wasn't cycling. After my first month on 50mg, even though we didn't conceive, the doctor explained that as long as I was o'ing there was no need to increase the dosage (they confirmed O via day 21 bloodwork). FWIW, at the time I was taking it back in 2008 I recall that a study came out (in the UK?) that showed that if a woman was o'ing on her own, prescribing clomid did not improve her chances of conceiving at all. In fact, just counselling the couple and encouraging more frequent BD'ing was more effective than clomid. That being said, I really hope the clomid works for you, it certainly helped me conceive DD.

Sorry I am late in replying to this post - I think the PP are right in avoiding upping your dose just yet. I did start and did all cycles at 100mg. and I sincerely doubt that it helped my cause at all. If you had a good strong O this cycle and the likelihood of 2 good follicles, I don't think there is much more you could ask from clomid. I think you might get similar results in terms of follicle size /growth etc. but at the expense of your uterine lining and your sanity.

I am thinking about you this week!

Big hugs,

Thanks, everyone.

My Dr. agreed we should keep it at 50 mg. Although......I did ask her about possibly taking it CD5-9 instead of 3-7.....I thought maybe if I had a couple of extra days before the clomid went to work my lining might have more of a chance to thicken. I had 2 fully mature follies at CD11 when my lining was 6.

She agreed. So 50 mg. CD 5-9. So if I O'd on CD14 last time with CD3-7, will I O a couple of days later this time--is that how it works?
