On weaning........

I am feeling sort of melancholy right now.....last night DD was nursing to sleep. She had a nap (unusual for her) so wasn't really sleepy.....she nursed for awhile and then hesitated...I said, "Do you want me to tell you a story?" Nods. So I told her a story, then sang a song and then said, "Let's go to sleep now." I turned over and she tossed and turned a bit, then fell asleep without nursing. During the night when she does wake now...only half the time she nurses back to sleep. I'm thinking if I put forth even a bit of effort, she might wean soon.

This makes me sad.....I've have been nursing or pregnant (or both) for over 15 years now. If she weans......sigh......it will be a first for me.

It never occurred to me that she might wean before I get pregnant, let alone the possibility that I wouldn't ever get pregnant again.

I know it's no reason to keep her nursing if she's ready to wean...I just can't bring myself to work at all at it. I'm scared she wouldn't fight it at all and that would be that. : (

Oh Dee :(

If it's any consolation, it doesn't sounds like she's ready to wean yet. My DS went for a long long time nursing like you're describing- maybe 9 months or so. When he was done, he was done.

15 years gets you a gold medal in my book. Now, we just gotta get you knocked up so you can go another 3 or so.

Hugs, sister,

Hugs, my DS only nurses once or twice a day now and it really makes me sad. Hopefully your DD wont want to wean for a while longer, and you'll get a BFP soon!

Well, she went to sleep without nursing tonight.....my six year old wanted a story and she likes that. Afterward she sort of tossed and whined once, but never asked......so I didn't offer. I never expected her to just fall asleep! It'll be interesting to see if she wakes any sooner than her normal time tonight.......

I guess I'll just see what she does. I sort of felt like tonight we just went with the flow....I didn't really want to offer if she was fine without....but I'm not going to encourage her too hard. If she weans, it's going to be on her own! It will be the first time I did nothing to encourage gentle weaning....I'm not encouraging, just letting her decide. We'll see. I won't stop her....but I don't think she's quite ready yet...I hope. : )

And yeah....I know they can go on a long time just nursing a bit before they totally give it up.....so that's good. She's only been down to nursing like this for a couple of months.

I have tears for you - I am in the same boat, and I really hoped it wouldn't happen before I got PG.
