cautiously excited....

So it turns out that as I was sitting in the office of the first real specialist I've seen, who was furious that previous doctors had missed/ignored my incredibly high estrogen level, I was actually pregnant!

Got a BFP this morning, after AF was five days late. I was desperately afraid of getting a BFN and having no period, so I procrastinated on testing. Also I had a m/c at six weeks in January so it will be a long while before I feel confident.

For the stats, I am 41, to be 42 in Oct. DH same age. I have a 3.5-year-old son and we have been trying for 14 mos, with the one m/c mentioned above. When the list started talking about DHEA, I read as much as I could and decided to start taking 50 mg/day, so for about four months now. Who knows whether that mattered? (I'm also lacto-ovo vegetarian and very conscientious about my omegas...)

Let's see if I can hold on to this one...sticky thoughts appreciated!

Thank you, Libby and Brenda!!

I was due to start Clomid for the first time this upcoming cycle -- I was relieved this new doctor I'd seen was finally going to be aggressive!!

I am very scared. We have no idea what caused the last m/c (except I'm old?!!) and this revelation about my high estrogen was unnerving but I am going to just keep a positive mentality. You recent graduates have been good role models!

Thanks for all your encouragement. I hope I get to stay under this heading...:)

OH MY GOD T.ANN!!! Yes, I am yelling. I am soo excited for you. We always hope that late AF is just this and it seems it so rarely is. Best news we've had all summer (except for the news from the new moms here, of course). I think I am also excited for you since we are the same age and both have a 3 YO DS.

It gives us all a lot of hope.

sending you some PPTs and very sticky baby dust.

happy happy joy joy

Interesting -- you have also reported four months of DHEA (apparently effectiveness peaks at 4 months). You are the second recent BFP (maybe even the 3rd) on this board who used DHEA. Hmm. Well, thanks to Leeann's (hpfus) detective work, she found a place where I could get it (it is illegal in Canada) and I started it 10 d ago. hmmm -- I think we might be on to something here....

Congrats again, T. Ann.

Thank you, thank you all!!

I feel the same way whenever on the board has luck (and just devastated when things don't work out) so I know I am in the best of company and your good wishes could not be more appreciated.

Krista, I didn't know that four months was a special number for the DHEA! Verrrrry interesting, since I have had absolutely no other intervention and my numbers are not good. (It's also impossible to get it in Belgium, where I live, so I had my mom bring some on a visit.) I started boldly at 25mg x 3, as was the initial recommendation I was reading about, and I figured I had nothing to lose, since I wasn't getting anywhere otherwise. I confess I took it all month long, not only pre-ovulation, though I know that may have been unwise. That's how pessimistic I was about getting PG! I did drop to 50mg/day when Kim posted this note about how powerful it is, so probably about two months ago (would have to look at the date of her post).

I'm just praying that IF it was the DHEA that helped, it truly has given me better egg quality so this bean can hang in there.

Thanks again, everyone. I'm desperately hoping to be followed by a large crowd...

Hi T. Ann, did you POAS or have a blood test? Did you tell us your beta number? Am I nosy or what?

Of course, I can't wait for all the good news so we can add you to my Recent BFPs... thread.

No problem! I have learned everything I know about TTC from the gang sharing what other people would think is "TMI" on the board! And these are the furthest thing from nosy.

So AF was due on Tuesday but because of this estrogen issue, my cycles have been getting longer so I had no expectations. Lots of light cramping that continues today. I waited until this morning and POAS with great trepidation. I will get blood drawn on Monday and if they do the numbers, I will post them. I really don't know how that works here because the hospital system is quite different and I have had NO luck getting the doctors at the hospital to work on this seriously with me. (My first pregnancy I didn't even see a dr until eight weeks.) I will try to force them to get -- and give me -- as much information as possible. And I'll of course tell everything!! :)
