Libby, That is so fantastic! Congratulations! You really offer hope, especially to those of us who have been at this for well over a year!
Now, besides the cruise, you have to give us all a list of exactly what to do/not to do!
Hey Kim & Donna!
I posted a bit of this above, but I am happy to put it right here as well. I have added in a number of comments to what was written in the travel agent message above.
By way of background - I am presently 42.33. DH & I have been trying for another child since December of 2005. We had pregnancies in February, 2006 and July/August 2006. Both were miscarried after 8-10 weeks. It took until late November 2006 for my cycle to get on track, and we began seeing our RE in very late December, 2006.
So, that makes 14 continuous months of TTC from the last M/C and recovery until success (and hopefully a healthy, happy pregnancy followed by a healthy, happy baby!!).
This cycle was my fourth round of Clomid. 50mg twice a day on days 3-7. I kind of messed that up a bit, I forgot to start on the morning of CD3, so it ran from CD3 afternoon until CD8 morning.
After months of meticulous temping and charting and what not, we took the whole month off of that. It was making me crazy, disrupting my sleep... and this was also advised by my RE. Her exact words, "This is too much. You must stop doing this." (See note below.)
We booked a wonderful and relaxing holiday over the week I would OVL and BD'd at will. My chart, EWCM and other info predicts that I OVL'd/conceived on March 12th/CD15. We did not actually BD on that date due to a rather active day on a cruise excursion. BUT, like the stats I so often quote indicate - we did BD on the day before OVL and the day before that - the two most important days for TTC. I remain a strong advocate of BDing on the two days leading up to OVL. All credible studies show that these two days are the key to pregnancy, as it is most important to have the spermies waiting in the falopian tubes/uterus for the egg.
I know that not everyone can take a procreation vacation, but honestly adding some relaxation to the week of BDing and also just not having to worry about or attend to any of life's other issues was a very good way for DH & I to focus on having fun, enjoying ourselves and BDing in the best environment we have experienced in a year or so.
I didn't take any vitamins or asperin over the week of the cruise. I forgot them. But I did resume taking them when I got home. I certainly do not recommend against vitamins and asperin. I did eat pineapple for several days post OVL, as it was readily available and I love it.
Likewise, I don't recommend against the temping and charting. It is clearly necessary at least to ensure that your cycles have a regular pattern and that any luteal phase problems are revealed... but after that, if you hate temping and charting - it *may* be OK to let it go. That said, my friend - 45 who just 6 weeks ago delivered a baby completely without assistance of an RE or special treatments - took the exact opposite approach. She went from zero charting to meticulous charting and temping and in two cycles she was pregnant. This was after 2 arduous and unsuccessful IVFs and other interventions.
Last, but not least - I have engaged in a lot of prayer and thoughtful reflection on getting pregnant and being pregnant and expanding our family.
I have no idea if any of the above helped, or if this pregnancy will be sustained. I hope and pray that it will... but the above are my tips on how this particular pregnancy came along. I hope you find something in there helpful!
All P&PT are welcome as I continue along this path!
Baby dust to all!Libby
