It is big bloodtest week!

Ladies:

On Thursday I am going in for my 17w alpha fetoprotein blood test. I am feeling pretty good about it and how things are going... so I am hopeful for a great result, with no worrying signs of Downs or Trisomy. My first alpha fetoprotein and U/S were both completely encouraging, so let's hope this trend continues.

In general, I am feeling well. Tried, but good. I am having a bit of a difficult relationship with food. I am almost totally ambivalent about eating, and my portion sizes are way down. Everything I am eating is super good though. No junk at all. In fact, I've lost about 10 lbs over the last 4 months. My OB isn't at all concerned, given my starting weight, but I am sure this trend will be turning around shortly.

Anyhoo... I'll let you know the results from the blood test just as soon as I get it. It does take a few days apparently to get the results. More waiting. We are experts at that, aren't we??

Dawnn:

Thanks for the note and thanks for the support in that other thread. I appreciate it.

I hope you were not alarmed that your doc wouldn't check of a heartbeat at 6 wks. Mine waits until 13 as he cannot reliably get it until then and he doesn't want to freak out his patients. It is soooo reassuring once you get in for your first US. It just makes everything more real!!

Time does fly, but we feel every moment pass by as we are in wait mode. I hope that all of your test and ultrasounds show perfect results!

Congrats on your good work thus far!!

The protocol here is - unless there is a concern noted in your results - to not report your actual score until they have done the second set of tests.

At 12 w, I had the blood work done and at 13 w I had a maxed out US. "Nothing of concern noted" was all I got in terms of a report on the blood work. The radiologist and US tech both told us that there were no markers of any kind for downs or fetal tube defects, and that the NT fold measurement was perfect and that so far they had no concerns.

My second set of AFP blood work is tomorrow. The second maxed out US is July 11th.

A score will be created from the results. They use 3 of the 4 tests taken to create the score.

BTW, 1:700 isn't a bad result at all! It is very good and far better than the average risk for a 41 yr old.
