Hello! I am 42 & on my second round of Clomid. Today is Day 10. Hoping to ovulate this next week. Last cycle 42 days so it might be another 10days. I want advice from you all as to when you would give up due to my age.

hi there I am new to this board but not to ttc over 40 first off are you going to a RE?

what testing have they done on you so far? have they tested your husband? how long have you been dx with pcos and what meds are you taking? I would run to the best RE you can find that has good stats with the over 40 crowd even if you have to go out of state time is not on your side it could take you 6 months to get testing done depending on the dr/hospital and the wait times some of the testing that you will need is

1.HSG(testing of your fallopian tubes)they inject a dye(radiology dept test)

2.throid tests (blood work)

3.clomid challange test(tests your ovarian reserve)(egg supply)

4.inhibin b test (newer test of your egg supply)only one lab does this test(send it out)

5.post cotial test

6.hysterscope(done in OR I have had two don't remember much)

there is more blood work they will do also I would have to pull out my paperwork and check since you have pcos they can confirm that with blood work and or US

you can conceive over 40 and with this dx I know that if you do become preg that there is evidence that pcos patient tend to miscarry more so they try and help reduce the risk by keeping pt on met thru the 12 week of preg or longer depending on your dr I took met till my 12 week I am 30w2d with our third baby

Hi,

Welcome to the board!!!! Glad you found us!!!! We will pray that you succeed in getting PG.

I am wondering if your DR has you on any meds for your PCOS. PCOS effects the quality of your eggs & if your were on metformin or glucophage this would improve your egg quality. I am wondering if you made a typo because it says your last cycle on Clomid was 42 days. This doesn't sound right at all. Are you seeing an RE or just an OB/GYN? If this 42 days info is right I think they are wasting your time with these Clomid cycles & you really need to see an RE who would be a lot more agressive with your treatment.

Anything I can do to help just give me a post!!!

+++++++++++++Prayers &+++++++++++vibes coming to you!!!!!++++++++++++

Hello!

Thank you for your reply.

I have done everything you listed. I am also on Met. ( I hate the side effects-DIARRHEA- but it is worth it!) I am on clomid. I ovulated for the first time last cycle. It happened on day21 though. But am encouraged because my progesterone level was off the scale @ 83. But here I am day11 after Clomid & hoping to ovulate earlier this cycle. Thank you for the encouragement & I will keep you posted. Deb

Lisa,

Yes my last cycle was 42 days long. But I hopeful after this cycle it will improve. I am on Metformin. I am just seeing an OB/GYN right now. I plan on one more cycle after this then will probably think about adoption. If you want goosebumps, I will tell you that I feel this cycle is so God directed! I started my cycle on May 19th. That day my fiancee's grandmother died. If I get pregnant this cycle I will have an edc around Feb 24th. His grandmother's birthday is March 1st. Now I see God in all of this! Thank you for the encouragement & prayers! DEB

Hello, I am happy to see you involve God in your TTC. I totaly believe it makes a differance. I am 40 & had a m/c & d&c last month. I was totaly devastated. I don't think I could of gotten through it without God. My husband & I are not giving up. We are trying again. I'm trying to believe that it was all meant to be for a reason. Right now I am just taking pre-concieve vitemins & baby aspirin. Unfortunetly we don't have good enough insurance to take it any further with testing & other meds. I pray everyday that Gods will be done with what I have to work with. I'm really not sure how many days a normal cycle is for me. It is differant every month. It was 28 days to the day when I was on birth control pills. I went off them last Aug. & it's been screwed up ever since. Any where from 17 days to 36 days. It took me 6 months to get preg. after 10 years of being on the pill. I was preg. for 9 weeks befor I m/c. I've had 2 other normal preg. & never m/c befor, so this is all new to me. I am not giving up, & don't think you should either. If it is meant to be, it will be. I know how hard it is when you want a baby so badly. Do you have any other children, or is this your first? I will be praying for you, as I do for the others trying TCC also. Love & prayers! hopeat40
