Hi!! I will be forty next month and have three older daughters , youngest being 14. Ive been remarried for eight years and 6 yrs ago tried for about 8 mo to get pregnant with no luck. we decided maybe then wasnt the time but now, time is ticking away and it is now or never. couple questions if anyone has advice 1) i bought a pack of the cheap ovulation strips online and according to the tests, I am not ovulating, are these pretty accurate? 2) also, it doesnt seem like my mucus is stretchy, like they said it should be, could i still be ovulating with these two signs? and what does anyone feel about clomid, and at what point should i maybe try this? thanks to anyone who responds!!

Hi,

The cheap ovulation strips did not work for me, they never showed I was ovulating, but when I bought the clear blue fertility monitor, it worked great and I got pg after just one month of using it. There are months when my mucus is more stretchy than others, so I think you could still be ovulating with these two signs, though it's possible you may not be. The clear blue monitor is very accurate, if this shows no O, you probably are producing eggs but not releasing them (at least from my own experience, which is what is my current problem). My experience with Clomid is limited, though I am going to use it next cycle, but I have friends who have successfully gotten pg with it. I think given your age, you should ask your dr now how long should you try before going to Clomid. I find you really have to ask for what you want. That's what I did, and we moved to Clomid much sooner than for someone, say, 35 yrs old (I'm 41), because there just isn't as much time to fool around with methods that don't work.

Hope this is helpful. Good luck!!
