almost at the end of the line

we have a doctor's appt tomorrow. The nurse told my DH that the AMH level test confirmed a low ovarian reserve, but wouldn't confirm the #. So, looks like tomorrow we're going to get the donor egg talk. I'm really upset.... I know there are people out there who had a baby with these things against them, but there are also 95% of the women who didn't. Keeping hope alive for a 2% chance is getting increasingly frustrating. - martha

Hi Martha, how did the apt go? We are kind of at the end of our line too, and it is so hard to be at this point. I hope the doctor gave you some kind of hope today. ((((Hugs))))

hi, Michelle,
Thanks for your support. Well, the AMH level, which is directly related to egg cell count as opposed to the hormone your brain sends out to the ovaries (FSH), was .1, which is really bad. So, even though I have a really low FSH level of 3.3, the egg count doesn't look good. I was glad to hear that in a way as it confirmed the real problem. People who are in limbo might ask for that test to be done. It is the new marker for REs and, he said, it is the first real one that works.

Anyway, the RE is really nice and we're going to do one hail mary attempt with IVF using my eggs. But, I don't want to do 4 rounds of it with these odds. So, most likely, we'll be doing donor eggs in the summer. I'm feeling ok about that. We're lucky as the insurance will cover most if not all of everything.

best,
martha

Martha,

When do you start your first cycle of IVF??

it will start next month... if all goes well, then the retrieval will happen mid may. They're doing this microdose protocol, which, I believe, is reserved for really low responders. We'll see.

thanks for the heads up on the meds. I figure this is our last chance. Gotta try once. Either way, I hope to have a child (even a donor egg child!) in a year! The doctor looked at me re the donor egg IVF and said, "It will work." As I don't have any children right now, and neither does my DH, our thought processes on donor eggs might be different from others.

thanks for the reply, martha

Martha

I wish you lots of luck. I was an egg donor about 8 years ago. If I can offer you any perspective from that side, feel free to PM me.
