hi, Gina,

I'm in a similar boat. Clomid three times, trying over a year, charting nothing.

Although I do agree that it is important to keep a positive attitude and not give up after a couple of cycles and declare "I'm old," I think that it is also important to be realistic. Statistics are real things. It is easier if you are 20 - period. That said, statistics also show that there IS a chance-- even if it is a 5% chance.

So, my advice to you is to keep a positive attitude and keep on trying and going to your doctor for advice. But, don't get frustrated if it doesn't happen right away or doesn't happen at all. - martha

Many women have children at your age or older, though to be realistic some will not be successful, it will likely take longer to conceive, or you may need fertility treatments. I know my RE believes Clomid is generally a bad idea for older women, and I have seen this opinion from other RE's as well. Have you had any U/s's around O to check your lining on Clomid? In many (though of course not all) older women Clomid can make an already thinner lining unacceptably thin, which can prevent conception. You might have more success with injectibles.

When you are older the majority of your eggs will not be capable of creating a baby, but that doesn't mean you don't have some good ones left. You can speed up conception by using injectibles to create multiple eggs for fertilization. We had at least 10 mature eggs on our last IUI using injects, and I am pg with a singleton.
