Hi all,
I was wondering what exactly is a beta and are you supposed to get it the day or two after you have a positive HPT?
Thanks in advance. :)

In addition to the previous poster, I wanted to add that there are 2 types of blood draws, a qualitative & quantitative.
Qualitative just detects the presence of HCG in the blood, not the actual measurement. The quantative measures the amount. If a doctor decides to monitor the pregnancy early on they will generally do a quantative every 2-3 days to see the rise of the hormone in the blood.
I once had my regular internist do a beta, and she did a qualitative beta. Her lab only measured anything about 25 as a positive, so it came

Thank you all! That explains a lot! I wondered why some of you were having betas and some weren't, and now I see where I fit in as well.
You guys rock. :)
