Clomid question???

Does anyone know if Clomid can overstimulate your ovaries and cause you not to ovulate?? I have taken Clomid for 4 cycles with no luck. I was ovulating fine with very normal length and regular periods. I went on Clomid to boost things. The first 2 cycles were fine and I responded well to Clomid. and the last 2 cycles have been very long 35 & 37 days and the dr. says from my prog. check at 21 days that i haven't ovulated for last 2 cycles. and i have been having pain in my sides. Now he wants to up the dosage and I am thinking maybe I have cyst or over stimulated ovaries and maybe should take a break from it for a month.

Any feedback???

thanks,

Nancy

When you mention the 21-day progesterone test - was it actually taken on day 21 of your cycle? Day 21 is based on a 28 day cycle, that assumes you ovulated on day 14. In reality, the test needs to be done 7 days past ovulation, and if you did it on day 21 of a 37 days cycle, you might only be 1 or 2 days past ovulation.

Not long enough for the progesterone to build up in your system! Which makes the testing result totally inaccurate. It doesn't mean you aren't ovulating - just that the test was done too soon!

Are you charting? Taking your temps with a basal thermometer? If so, are you showing a clear rise in temps after ovulation? Are you using OPKs to predict ovulation? These things will help you know if you are ovulating better than a test taken too early!

What's the point of being so fertile if I can't hold onto one little baby?

Catherine, Wow I never thought about it that way. It makes sense though. I am going to ask my Dr. about it? I am supposed to start 100mg Clomid tomorrow but we were really thinking about taking a month off of the Clomid just in case my ovaries are overstimulted. not sure yet. We had been doing the bbt charts and the opk test and CM charting for 12 months and last month I had to take a break from it, because I was letting it rule my life. Everything revolved around the CHART!!! We just decided to BD at least every other day and go with it.

I may do just the temps this month just to see if they indicate ovulation.

Thanks for your input, it really helps.

Cathie, Thanks so much for your information. It helps so much. I have been experiencing some pain and my Dr. is not in the office for another week. I was supposed to start 100mg Clomid today and after gathering as much information as we could my dh & I have decided not to start it. we are going to take a break from the Clomid this month and if I don't get pg this month then we will go see the doctor for u/s before I start clomid again.

Thanks again to everyone, i have rec'd alot of good advice.
